RE: Best Rivalry in the Belt
I don't know at what point I would say a team passes each other by (I did point out at what point I believe FIU would pass FAU by in my previous post). As far as the UF example, they have not been always in contention (remember the Pell Grant scandals, remember Zook more recently?) They've really past scUM by during the Urban years. Don't take this the wrong way, but you are giving yourself way too much credit. The ONLY team in the SBC that comes remotely close to having a "National" reputation is Troy. I believe that the moment ANY team in the SBC goes undefeated and becomes a National headline. That is the moment that they pass all the other SBC schools by. You can see how fickle the SBC teams are by the fact that any ONE of them who beats a BCS school is immediately the star of the conference.
(02-06-2009 12:10 PM)OwlFamily Wrote:  Ok,

Ill agree with that, but what point WOULD you consider ANY team passing up another? UM has been in the toilet for about 5 years, while UF has always been in contention.

FIU hasnt even been a REMOTE player in SBC untill just last year and was the Laughing stock of College football for 2 years going 0 for 22. (I may be off on that number, I cant recall the actual)

It would take FIU several years, confrence championships, and Bowl WINS to even come close to FAU reputation wise in the nation and SBC.

Several Troy starters were injured and didn't play (starting center, qb, top wr, etc).

I think Troy and Middle fans are the only fanbases in the conference that really despise each other on a level like they should and like you see in other conferences like the SEC.

RE: Best Rivalry in the Belt
If you wanna know FIU hase two guys coming outta high school to play on the o-line who weigh over 310lbs and are 6'3 and over.. Not to forget to mention we have a guy name Rupert Bryan who weighs around 270 and in high school chased down a DB from behind, let's talk about the importance of athleticism at OL. FIU took FIVE o-linman, and some are ready to play right now.

FAU probably doesnt have a guy who can run in the 4.3's (unless they are running down hill, better yet falling off a cliff.) FIU has three of those guys, I couldn't tell you how many guys run in the 4.4's.

What about defense though. FIU just pulled probably the best class of linebackers in the Belt. Has two d-lineman who are going to be able to do some serious damage in Thatcher Starling and Joshua Forney. I would be willing to bet that Thatcher (who is 6'4" and every bit of 250lbs and runs in the 4.8's will be able to run through and around your fat and slow OL guy, and BTW there's a reason he is that big and didn't have anyother offers. HE CAN'T MOVE. Put his a$$ at tackle and watch guys run all around him. FIU took big guys who can move. Not the fattest, tallest guys they found at the Chinese buffet.

Long story short, FIU just pwnd FAU in recruiting, two years straight, and are going to pwn you on the field as well, for many years to come.

Definitely WKU and MTSU. This rivalry goes back to the OVC days.

Just wondering, has any sunbelt team ever had an Army All-America or Under Armour All American commit to them?

I know Troy WR Josh Jarboe played in the Under Armour All-American game, but he was an Oklahoma commit, so that probably doesn't answer your question. I can't think of any teams that have signed those types of caliber players. I don't think it's ever happened.

Uhhh, Pooh Bear Mars just signed with FIU this year. He was a 4* line backer and Army-All American from Apopka High School. REPRESENT MUCK CITY!

So yeah the answer is yes, 1 to FIU......

HS All-Americans currently enrolled at SBC schools

Troy:
WR Josh Jarboe (Oklahoma transfer) -> Under Armour All-American
DE Brandon Lang - Superprep All-America team (+ nominated to play in the Army All-American Bowl)
This year: Troy signed MaxPreps All-American (1st team Defense) DB Caleb Massey.

FIU:
LB Larvez Mars (Army All-American)

Last year: UNT signed Parade All-American QB Riley Dodge, Troy signed Kentucky's Mr. Football QB Corey Robinson (EA Sports and Prep Nation 101 All-America team)

Not quite. They just have to start recruiting thugs and play dirty. If FIU can start taking our QB's on a regular basis then I believe they will have they same reputation as FAU in the near future.

I've said it before, guess what? I'll say it again. Enjoy this time FAU fans. It is your destiny to be bottom of the pack in this conference. Panther dude was right. FIU will pass FAU for good within the next couple of years.

I mean honestly, how long can a drunken 90 year old Howard last? Then what are you going to do? Hire from within? 03-nutkick

As long as he continues to WIN his bowl games Ill go out and buy HS whatever he wants. I mean come on, SOMEONE in the SBC has to do a good job and win thier bowl games and not blow late game leads. No one else around these parts seems to be able to accomplish that excpet FAU.04-rock

Ok, come on. Fine, I'll give it to you that you have won 2 straight Bowl games.

FAU: Since joining the SBC

BCS record
Wins:
Beat a 1-11 Minnesota team 42-39
Losses:
Texas- 52-10
Michigan State- 17-0
Minnesota - 37-3, 46-7
Oklahoma State - 42-6, 48-8, 23-3
Kentucky - 45-17
USF - 35-23
Florida - 59-20
Clemson - 54-6
Kansas State - 45-0
South Carolina - 45-6
Kansas - 30-19
Louisville - 61-10

Conference Championships: 1

Record vs. Troy - 1-3

Troy: Since joing SBC

BCS:
Wins:
#17 Missouri - 24-14
Oklahoma State - 41-23

Losses:

South Carolina - 17-7, 45-20
LSU - 24-20, 31-40
Missouri - 52-21
FSU - 24-17
Georgia Tech - 35-20
Nebraska - 56-0
Arkansas - 46-26
Florida - 59-31
Georgia - 44-34
Ohio State - 28-10
Oklahoma State - 55-24

Conference Championships: 3

Compare the losses. Not only that but we have one more bowl appearance than FAU and that's with getting screwed last year.

Not only that, but we actually show promise. Three straight years with 8 wins and each year that goes by the recruiting classes keep getting better and better. FAU? Did worse than the year before and once again did nothing to impress on the recruiting trail.

I think Howard is a great coach when he's not running his mouth off at teams like Texas. I mean really, he's done a great job with you guys. But I do have to say this: Winning two bowls is not that big of a deal. You've won two of them, and we've won one. You're not that far ahead of us in terms of bowls. It's not certain that you'll win your next year or even if you'll make it to one. Same goes for us.

And by the way, USM >>>> CMU. Just proving a point because quite frankly, you're a class act OwlFamily and we love having on our board (s). Don't let PoT get to you with his rude remarks about Howard being a drunk, I'm sure he's not.

Actually there are many past articles about his drinking problems.

Not only that, but I don't think smack in the "smack" talk forum is considered rude?

I like your posts alot TroyFootball05 but try and be a little less of a tight ass, mmmmk? Thanks.

Its all good, 04-rock

As POT said this IS the smack forum. As MODS, TDC, CBN, INSIDEUALR, and myself are going to let the smack room have a lot of leeway. Bout the only thing thats not going to be tolerated is Personal Attacks on users.

Bash teams, coaches, Performance all you want but lets keep it clean on personal attacks.

That being said, will you TROY PLEASE find a way to finish a damn game???? Im tired as hell of ya'll being up on BCS teams and choking the chicken in the stretch.
