Nice line. Congrats on the win, JMU. It was a fun couple of years with you. Just remember our baseball team gets to smack your @$$ as you walk out the SBC door.

There were 500 people in your stadium in OT last week. Hush.
This is true. Attendance during the second half was horrible last week.

Another game where JMU made critical errors at times when they could have turned this into a blowout early on. We lack that killer instinct to recognize those moments and capitalize on them.
That being said, this was our best 2nd half of the year. Granted, we've been a poor 2nd half team so the bar was low.

AAC certainly has bigger and better stadiums.
Average 2026 Football Attendance
AAC 25,176
SB 20,692
The additional millions of $s from the conference, updated schedules, and TV coverage "might" offset some schools with .
JMU's payout a year from the SB - $2,000,000
JMU's new payout from AAC $6-7,000,000.
Who would not prefer home football games against:
Memphis
ECU
Memphis
Navy
Army
SFU
Tulane
North Texas
UTSA
For basketball add:
Temple
Wichita State
Why in the world we not accept this invitation?
Be angry all you want but we're the 2nd in two years that have/are leaving the SB. I'd be surprised if there are not more teams leaving the Sunbelt in the next year or two. You think ASU and Marshall are not looking for options?
It's going to be an angry couple of years for some folks.

I thought we were going to come out the 2nd half rolling and nope, slow start, but your guys were hitting on all cylinders.

I remember how adorable the Sun Belt defectors in 2012 were thinking they were leaving serfdom and headed to a conference of media market riches. Of course they found out there's nothing magic about the CUSA uniform patches. Several of those schools are in the AAC now.
A lot of realignment is like the prisoner's dilemma. All it takes is for certain ego-driven administrations to decide they want to defect instead of cooperate to make it worse for everyone. Don't say I didn't warn you. No one knows what realignment will do for the rest of the decade or what changes congress will make.

Had a majority of the SBC invested and continued to improve in sports outside of baseball, JMU might not have left.
Unfortunately, the last few years have been not built upon the success that made the SBC attractive in 2022. NIL/Rev share and all of the BS have certainly played a part in that, but the momentum has slowed.
It's not ego. It's about positioning your school for what you THINK the future might look like. JMU could certainly be making a mistake, but even if the AAC loses schools, you don't think some of the top of the SBC East would be happy to join us? That was the calculus behind the move.

I think that’s all speculation on if they would move on if AAC lost schools. Every conference has ups and down years and I wouldn’t really say the SBC is down as much as it is stagnant. If AAC lost Memphis, USF or Tulane the league would not be as inviting to leave the SBC for especially if say in 5 years the SBC is back climbing.
WKU didn’t think so when CUSA was looked at as the better league till certain schools dipped.

The Sun Belt is the same conference that JMU was thankful to get an invite from just a couple years ago. Texas state slugged through years of mediocrity before heading off to a much more significant opportunity. Their invitation born from their Sun Belt affiliation not domination and their location. We knew it was coming due to their far outside of the foot print location despite their middle of the conference position. You folks are spending student money like drunken sailors, and that is what set's you apart, in your below average stadium and spit balling the Sun Belt for failing to meet your expectations on the way out. Low class indeed. Enjoy your new home! We couldn't be happier you found it.

This is "projection" my friend. The only bitterness is the crap show we're having to deal with with you folks for no good reason. This is what happens when you rape your students for the money rather than honestly working your way to the "promotion". It may be short lived for whatever reason but the rivalry built in to the Sun Belt is far more of a lure than the mid-majors in the AAC. They're fine but nah I'm good in the Sun Belt.

It's cool as long as you hide your athletics subsidy in tuition though, right? Because JMU has the fifth highest subsidy per student in the SBC.
