So does he mean the listed schools applied to join the Big 12 and/or ACC or does he mean the entire ACC has applied to join the Big 12 along with the listed schools? 05-stirthepot

And this is why it's delusional to think moving to the AAC can put you in a position to join the ACC or Big 12. Even if you're JMU you have all of those schools ahead of you.

I don’t see JMU listed as having filled out a request so literally all of them are 07-coffee3

I want to leave my job and play in the NBA. Thus far no one has agreed to my requests to join an NBA team.

Some of these might happen in the future but doubtful they happen anytime soon unless they can SMU-way their way into a deal...

Honestly, I think UConn and Memphis have an outside shot. UConn is still a basketball blue blood. The others aren't happening.

Probably because you’re not one of the bigger better athletes that actually declared for the draft and put themselves in a realistic position to be selected 07-coffee3

Based on the latest from McMurphy, the most likely B1G/SEC expansion plans are focused on Virginia and UNC to the SEC. I don't necessarily see a large-scale raid of the ACC that some have predicted. If the ACC loses those two teams, I think they backfill with UConn to replace the loss of top basketball programs and hold at 16 teams.

Assuming a limited two-team raid of the ACC, I don't see the ACC or Big 12 adding any other new schools in the foreseeable future. If schools like Washington State, Oregon State, Boise State, Memphis, etc. were accretive to the Big 12, then the Big 12 would have added them last time around. Even when Memphis offered $200-250M and $0 media rights for a five-year membership that the Big 12 could terminate after five years, the Big 12 still didn't have the votes to do it.

I just don't see major P4 expansion on the near-term horizon.

RE: The Teams That have Filed Membership Requests to B12 and ACC
Everyone can raise their hand, but only a couple of schools should even get consideration in the future. The rest are just pipe dreams 03-phew
We know Memphis has thrown around $200MM+ and was rebuffed already.

The jockeying for position is simply a prelude to what happens a few years from now when conference media rights get renegotiated. If some of the most prominent ACC and Big 12 teams get invites to the P2, then you might have a few G6 move up to the P4, but not necessarily. The ACC and Big 12 can easily downsize to a more tidy number of members and choose not to associate with the riff raff in G6. Maybe we see a back-to-the-future alignment with an ACC where members actually play every other member in football so you have a true champion and balanced schedule. Seems like a novel idea.

This is the wrong framing. Everyone wants to be in the highest classification they can be in when the dust settles.

When the smoke settles the haves and have nots will be seperated and what's left needs to hope they're in the right league.

If the SEC eventually takes UNC and UVA as the speculation suggests, then the B12 will look to cherry pick the best from the ACC... NOT the ACk or the PAC.

Having spoken with members of JMU's administration, that's viewed our most feasible path to ACC membership. Our leadership is under no illusion that we're going to join an ACC that looks like today's ACC. But in a scenario where the ACC loses 5-8 teams, our administration believes we are very well positioned, particularly if the ACC loses one or both Virginia schools.

I'm just not sure that the Big 12 will be successful in poaching the ACC. If the ACC loses UNC and UVA, I think it backfills with UConn as a basketball blue blood replacement and holds at 16. I'm not sure that a Big 12 raid of that version of the ACC succeeds. Things become much less certain if the SEC were to go after UNC, UVA, FSU, and Clemson. At that point, I could see the Big 12 potentially succeeding in poaching four ACC schools as well.

Still my money is on the ACC losing UNC and UVA, then backfilling with UConn. I don't think mass G6 migration to the P4 is happening.
