After Tuesday, there will be claims of either a blue wave or a red wave by many on this board. It may be useful to get ahead of this and define what a wave will look like. Given that historically the party out of power picks up seats in the House and Senate during midterms, I wouldn't call a mere pickup of seats a "blue wave", since it's generally expected. The real question is how much defines a wave.

For context:
In the last five midterms, the party out of power has picked up on average, 30 House seats and almost 4 Senate seats. At the moment, the Republicans only have 218 house seats (one over the majority) and 53 Senate seats (only 3 over a majority).


Given the above, if the Democrats pick up less than those numbers, is it still a "blue wave" even though they take control of one or both houses? If they pick up around the averages listed above, is it still a "blue wave"? If not, how many seats over those numbers would deem it a "blue wave"? I'm truly wondering what would define a blue wave.

For the Republicans, holding control of either house, in my opinion, has to be determined as a "red wave" merely because of the headwinds they are facing historically. The Republicans should by all accounts lose control of both houses after Tuesday's election. It's always been harder to flip Senate seats than House seats but given that Republicans are defending 22 Senate seats and Democrats are only defending 13, the numbers favor the Democrats.

I have no clue who's gonna win on Tuesday. If I did, I'd be buying lottery tickets. It's going to be an interesting Tuesday evening, either way.

My timing is perfect. I will be sitting at an RV Park at the Grand Canyon Tuesday night. Will watch the sunset at Mather Point, then duck inside and do something else besides politics, lol.

Historically the party gaining power in the Presidential year lose any majorities in the mid-terms.

IMO Congress will go Blue for sure. It is really the Senate that I am having a hard time getting any real feeling for. I feel like they will pick up a New Hampshire Seat, but the rest of the meaningful swing races seem too close to call.

The best prior mid-term to compare is 2014. Dems were defending the same number of senate seats (20), but fewer house seats. (201 to the gop's 220) Obama lost 9 senate seats and 13 house seats. This amount of losses were unexpected because the polls had severely under reported gop support right up thru election day. Juan WIlliams spent the evening telling everyone it was not a red wave until Brit Hume beat him over the head.

So dems would need to outdo those results for it to be a blue wave.

+3 brother. This "war" if they wanna call it that will go down in history as one of the best strategic military actions of a US president in quite some time. It really isn't a "war" now. We took out their ability to wage war (navy, air force, etc.) within weeks. All they've done since then is every few weeks launch a couple rockets or drones that have had little affect. Their terror networks (Houthis, Hezbollah, Hamas, etc.) have been crippled, all of their neighbors have aligned with us, and hopefully, the IRGC's ability to control it's populace has been weakened enough to allow internal change to occur.

Another huge benefit is the fact that the Persian Gulf oil exporting nations are ramping up their infrastructure for alternate exporting routes. Multiple times since 1979, the Iranians have threatened the Straight of Hormuz and rocked oil markets. Now, in the future, they won't have that leverage because the Saudis and others have built out alternate routes. Trump may never get the credit for this incredible accomplishment but America will benefit, regardless.

My little sojourn into a quieter lifestyle diminishes my need to keep up with politics. No matter what happens, it will be a long time before anyone gets around to bothering me directly.

I disagree. It's the way he's handled the war or should I dare say still mishandling the war. His narcissistic tendencies get in the way of staying focused and all his blather sometimes is just blather with little substance.

He vacillated too much and still hasn't come to any clear idea on how he is going to end this war.

Another missed opportunity imho is that he isn't taking advantage of the drone technology Ukraine has to use on Iran. Once again his own personal narcissistic tendencies and hatred of Z is getting in the way of valuable resources and weapons.

I'm withholding judgment on Iran until after the mid-terms, since he is obviously holding off for that.

All signs seem to point to a pretty large-scale cripple them for decades sort of hit.

Personally, I still say Parking or bust, but regardless, they need to leave Iran no options.
