Lots of factors resulted in the field storming:

1. As a national phenomenon, it's much more common now
2. Lots of history with JMU as well as Billy Napier (Furman, UL)
3. JMU demolished us last year
4. JMU was undefeated and fighting for a second playoff birth
5. JMU recently announced they're moving conferences, so it was our chance to send them out with a loss
6. Thursday night is party night for college students
7. It was a come-from-behind overtime win
8. This win allows App to control their destiny for the conference championship

I used to cringe about rushing the field for regular season conference games but this one made sense.

We stormed the field beating Marshall last year and ECU in 2023 and neither of those teams were good.

If you've been bang average for 4 years after years of dominance, you'd rush the field every big win too.

I was going to say that the “boink” of the FG post was also the sound of JMU’s playoff chances disappearing, but I’m going to take the high road and not say that.

People who poo pop field stormings are lame to me. The students and crowd played a big role in false starts and making it a tough environment. Likely the last time JMU will play in Boone (unless we can cook up a OOC series) and this is supposed to be a rivalry.

I don’t like fans getting in players’ faces but it happens at every level. Look at the Texas fan filming the Florida players and yelling stuff at them. App knows how to blow up JMU’s seasons and I hope we get a chance at revenge in the future.

I know JMU Twitter fans are loud (at times obnoxious) and can disparage the Sun Belt but I have really enjoyed our time and the other fan bases. I’ll miss the Sun Belt and will still root for the success of the league

It was also a sudden pop ending. Not a “had the game put away with 12 minutes to go and won comfortably by 10”. Had that been the case there wouldn’t be quite the same buildup of tension. You can’t apply logic to an emotional situation. When the dam bursts, water rushes out. There’s no logic that’s going to hold it in place.

Why not rush the field? It was a Thursday night nationally televised game that ended on the last possession with a home team winning field goal against a conference rival. Boone has a great football environment. The fans were loud and into the game plus the students stayed all four quarters.

Congratulations on a good win. Celebrating those should not be criticized.

I will miss being in the SBC. JMU is trying to strike while the iron is hot and leverage their success. It’s what they should do. That being said, the SBC East is a great fit for JMU. The rivalries would have continued to grow. We may end up getting back together at some point in the future and that would be a good thing.

Here's something else crazy that came out of this game.

On Friday during a radio interview with some Arkansas buddies, it's revealed that Dowell tore his ACL on the sideline a couple games ago and hasn't told many people. He's waiting til after the season for surgery.

I think app is better than many people believe

Best App team since 2023. Won with a QB playing at about 80%. If he gets healthy we’ll be favored the rest of the way. But man I know this team can lose every game as we aren’t built to blow out anyone.

……I would suspect we will know more after “The Week of Hate” ends with your road trip to Statesboro next Saturday!

The East is still tough, it will be hard to get wins the rest of the year.
