Canada ensuring independence from US infrastructure
They are planning a new fiber cable connection with Europe so they can bypass US territory and US data companies.

Should US infrastructure suffer outages, hacks, or attacks, Canada and Europe will have an independent, direct connection.

...and what makes them think that they won't be victims of the same calamities? Be as it may, they are dependent on us more than they realize. But, go ahead and see what happens and if they're right.

Yes - Canada is still largely dependent on the US. However, Trump has spurred them to make plans now to reduce that dependency in the future. This also includes the fast-tracking of new pipeline construction from Alberta to the west coast.

There are also talks for an Alberta-Ontario pipeline. Environmental concerns, indigenous opposition, and regulatory roadblocks would have made such a pipeline difficult in the past, but there's a greater chance it happens now.

Quote:Alberta and Ontario proposed a crude oil pipeline and energy corridor across Canada as a way of reducing the country’s dependence on the US.

The 3,300-kilometer (2,051-mile) route, called the Northern Shield Energy Corridor, would connect the Alberta oil-storage hub of Hardisty with the central Canadian refining center of Sarnia, Ontario, Alberta Premier Danielle Smith and Ontario Premier Doug Ford told reporters Monday.

The proposed pipeline would carry about 500,000 barrels of oil a day for domestic use and export markets, and could expand to 800,000 barrels a day. Ontario will also explore creating its own strategic petroleum reserve.

So maybe Canadians should thank Mr. Trump for making Canada a more resilient country, less dependant on their neighbor to the south.

This is the most hilarious post about Canada I have read. It misses so many issues plaguing the country to try and insinuate they have hope.

First, they can pump all the oil east after spending 100s of billions they don’t have, but then what? They don’t have the refineries to do anything with it. So they will have to spend 100s of billions more on refining capacity. That could all be up and running in 15-20 years if,

Second, the liberal party wasn’t 100% on the Green Grift and has built their brand on getting off oil. It’s the reason Alberta has been fighting with the federal government, they e been trying to get a much shorter pipeline built to the west coast for decades and the liberals won’t approve it. They don’t have domestic companies capable of building out all the required infrastructure to reconfigure their oil consumption and no foreign group (outside of the Chinese) will put the investment in with their regulatory environment. Does Canada want to be a third world Belt and Roads participant

Third, Canada has the worst performing economy in the G7 and it’s not even close. With only 40MM people they do t have the economic capacity for the total project.

Sounds like a logical decision to have options.

Multi polarity is increasing everywhere, on top of shifting alliances and allegiances, and more countries world wide are assessing their place in things.

Old blocks are not really splintering, but drifting apart a little as societies, priorities, and governments evolve.

Interesting times for sure.

That you believe this while overlooking the numerous and sundry problems that everyday Canadians face due to repressive government is unsurprising.

Yep. That’s the logical adjustment. Perfectly foreseeable.
