Musk & Trump blame each other for Starlink interruptions
Added by edit: The Wall Street Journal now reports the decision to throttle Starlink was a unilateral one by Mr. Musk.

https://www.wsj.com/world/ukraine-starli...p-dbc49193

This thread’s OP follows.
______

Elon Musk has blamed Donald Trump (80) for restrictions imposed on his Starlink communications service, after Ukraine reported nationwide interruptions hampering frontline operations and defences against Russian attacks.

The SpaceX boss, formerly Trump’s efficiency tsar, responded on Thursday to a post from Ukraine’s foreign minister Mykhailo Fedorov saying the technology was “critical” for the country as officials started reporting limitations imposed on terminals moving at speed.

“Starshield systems are owned and controlled by the US government,” Musk said, referring to the military version of Starlink, developed by the Pentagon. “Any limits on speed or usage are decided by the US military and POTUS.”

While Musk has said the two systems are separate, in many cases they share the same underlying satellite technology and the distinction is not always clear-cut. Starshield's secure services use enhanced encryption and dedicated terminals, but rely on the vast Starlink constellation as their backbone.

Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky told the FT that the suspension was presented to Kyiv as a technical glitch, but dismissed the idea that failures of the system may have been caused by a fault: “It was not a technical problem, it was the will.”

It's only news when you think you've found conservatives to blame for something, anything.

Let's see you start reporting the "news" from the left when they are guilty. You shouldn't have to dig too deep to find examples.

You actually did just double down on stupid.

You do know that possessing the ability to cut and paste doesn't mean that you're very smart, right? Doing it twice makes you look even less smart.

As long as it looks like it's detrimental to Trump, it's factual and therefore news to Gitanole.

It's been turned back on. The question is why it was turned off and by whom. I don't think it's exactly a stretch to ask the executive to be consistent with itself in these situations.

Well, from what I know, Trump told Fox News he never told anybody, especially Elon Musk, to turn it off.

Which is why I think it's reasonable then to ask who and why. Last time with Ukraine it was Hegseth that temporarily halted supplies. It's fine if that's the official position of the US government but Trump said he didn't know they had been halted and they were quickly restarted. This just leads me to the consistency issue. Everyone should be on the same page especially in the military areas. It could have just been a glitch, but I still think we should know.

Agreed. It makes me wonder if Hegseth's starting to get too big for his britches, so to speak.
