Consumer Prices up 3.7% Annually in September
Quote:Inflation accelerated across the U.S. in September, rising at an annual rate of 3.7% as energy costs jumped, according to new government data.

Inflation picked up after two months of holding steady at an annual pace of 3.4%. Core CPI, which excludes the more volatile energy and gas categories, rose 2.6% from a year ago, accelerating from a 2.4% rate in August and higher than economists' forecast of 2.5%.

Inflation has risen sharply since the start of the year due to soaring energy prices, sparked by the war in Iran and Russia's war with Ukraine.

The Labor Department said Wednesday that gasoline prices, which rose 9.1% in September from the prior month, accounted for more than half the monthly increase in the CPI report. Energy prices rose 20.4% from a year ago, while gasoline jumped 34.2%.

I don’t consider this good news lmao.

But you’re probably right for the party as whole, in terms of using this for November. Not that they’d actually do anything about it if/when they get control, they’ll just point it out.

Democrats would burn the country to rule over the ashes.

A box of Kroger brand baking soda was price at $0.40 before Covid. After the pandemic, it hit $1.20. It is now $0.99.

As long as the baking soda price doesn't increase, I will not blame Don Trump.

Well, usually news that's bad for the US is good for the Democrats, at least when an election is on the horizon.

They can't even do that. They're terrible at this. It's why trump is in office in the first place!

It's probably folly to just look at one product...but since you went there...

The jump to $1.20 was likely due to supply chain issues. So take that out as it was only a Covid thing, and the price has doubled since 2020. So you could absolutely put some of the blame for that on trump. You'd really to need to know the price on January 20, 2025.

Well, if I was a conspiracy theorist, I could make the claim that trump is purposely trying to crash the economy...specifically the middle to lower classes so that he and his billionaire bros can come in and sweep up the ashes for pennies on the dollar. 03-wink

Probably the major reason trump won in 2024 was main streets view of high prices on groceries as the lone fault of Biden...thanks a lot to the incompetence of the DNC. So this is not just a feature for one party to use. 07-coffee3

Democrats are the party of death, destruction, and despair. If something leads to them obtaining and keeping absolute power, Democrats will support.

Their voters will deny supporting it because they know nothing good comes from Democrat power. Their voters know unless it leads to death, destruction or despair, Democrats want no part of it.

Watch as they celebrate anything most normal people would consider depraved.

Happens every time….

Of course you think Trump is trying to crash the economy, Tom.

That's right on par with you with your worldview.

I was being a goofball in that post, Tom.

I do blame (at least partly) Trump for some failures and give him credit for some accomplishments. The economy is solid and stable, but not thriving overall like the president would like us to believe.

I don’t know Tom, you must be misinformed.

I was informed on this message board just today that things are cheaper under Trump than Biden.

Well, eggs* are!

* Eggs are cheaper now thanks to eradication of the bird flu that spiked record high prices near the end of the Biden presidency. Which has nothing to do whatsoever with anything trump did.
