RE: Fort Hood execution live streamed
I won't watch because I have no need to, but I have no problem with it being available for anybody who does want to. Same thing I feel about when they execute somebody in a state prison and the families of the victim get invited to watch. If they want to watch to give them closure, by all means.

Two valid points. Agree.
While people that support this would tell you capital punishment is a deterrent, the extensive research into the criminological data shows no credible evidence that the death penalty deters crime.
Studies also show that victim’s families only report “feeling closure” anywhere from 2.5 to 30% after witnessing an execution. Comparative studies also show more satisfaction with the legal system in non capital vs capital cases.
There is a reason this has not been done in 90 years.
In general, I oppose the death penalty, Mr. X. There is too great a chance to execute an innocent person. Or, in an unusual example, there is the botched execution of Christa Pike. Now our state (Tennessee) is going to be sued.
In the Hasan case, I'm fine with the death penalty. Same for Jeffrey Dahmer. But, and as noted, I oppose it overall.
As to the deterrence factor, I understand the research strongly suggests the death penalty serves as minimal (if any) deterrence. But having speed limits is not a deterrent for many motorists. Does that mean we should scrap speed limits?
I don't like the thought of this execution of Hasan being lived-streamed (though I strongly favor surviving family members to attend the execution). I'm definitely not going to watch.

100% guaranteed that this raghead in a wheelchair won’t kill another person after 12/3/26. That’s deterrent enough

I am against the death penalty except in extreme cases and prison murders.
It is unsurprising the death penalty’s deterrence value is suspect because of the great time between the murder and the execution. It is like touching a hot stove, but the effect only takes place decades later.

That’s why they should do like old west and hang them as soon as convicted
And not just murders. Child rapists too

RE: Fort Hood execution live streamed
Worth noting: Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee recently granted executive clemency (a life sentence for murder) to Thomas Clardy. Though Clardy was not on death row, ... it still makes me take pause to think he could have died in prison for a crime he did not commit.
If I had either a family member or close friend murdered, I would probably want the murderer to be executed. So maybe I'm being hypocritical to oppose the death penalty (except in cases such as Hasan, Timothy McVeigh, etc.).

Generally I am opposed to the death penalty because of mistakes but there is no mistake here. He also swore an oath and broke it Hasan is an enemy combatant.
It does not make sense to serve up martyr in a wheel chair. Creating easier pathways to radicalize. Putting our soldiers and citizens at risk. Better to just remove he from the field out of eyesight. Erase him like Bin Laden. The boogie man you don’t see coming is much scarier.
This just reeks of weak leadership by Trump and Hegseth.

Such a weak response. Trump leading by example.
If Biden, Obama or any president wanted a live execution I would say the same thing. I go back to my original statement, there is a reason this has not been done in 90 years. So a whole bunch of presidents, Rs and Ds did not do this. In this specific, particular case Trump and Hegseth are showing weakness and stupidity. That does not mean I support everything any other president ever did.

It deters the crap out of the one being executed. The recidivism rate is 0%.
