Well its back above $4 a gallon here in West Virginia and only dropped below $4 for about a month or so in June/July. And it only got down to $3.85.

This is not about the Strait of Hormuz, the oil companies are ripping us off bad and have been the last few quarters. Their profits have DOUBLED at the same time.

It's still $3.19 on my corner.

yep ... go back to Katrina days when oil prices were 140 bbl and gas only hit a high ~4.50 gal...

yepper, the consumer is getting royally screwed by big oil....

Oil companies have basically nothing to do with what gas stations charge for gasoline. It is a traded commodity. They don't set the prices per barrel of oil either.

That being said, a growing consensus has begun to form that the amount of oil reserves has been understated across the globe by OPEC, etc...and maybe for quite awhile. That would have kept prices artificially higher. And that might explain why the huge supply disruptions during this idiotic war didn't have a bigger impact on the price of oil and therefore gas prices. Although the market manipulation played a role too. The unprecedented crack spreads seem to further bolster this.

About $3.70 at gas stations in many urban Nashville areas.

If Uncle Joe were in office (thank goodness he is not), I have to wonder if some rightwingers on this board would be blaming him for the high prices.

In simplest terms, Trump is trying harder than Joe ever did to address these things. Nobody ......... not one single person can prove that inflation would have been better / same / worse if Trump was in office instead of Biden during that run-up, but the one thing I do believe is that Trump would have tried just about anything to slow or stop that.




As for current prices.. Not sure what is going on, but while I was in Maine on vacation for 11 days, the price at my local Gas Pump there dropped almost every day and by 29 cents from the day I arrived to the day I left.

Fair points, ENabe.

A couple points.

1. trump policies and actions in term 1 lead to big chunk of the high gas prices in 2022 that didn't fully hit until Biden. Mainly the two stimulus bills (but much of that should be blamed on Covid...see global inflation) along with his OPEC 2020 deal.

2. trump's idiotic war is the ONLY reason we're seeing elevated prices now.

3. You say Biden didn't do anything to lower inflation or gas prices, but what were they when he left office? They're higher now. Inflation came down to near normal and gas was $3.12 when trump took office. So if you're going to blame Biden alone for the spikes of inflation and gas prices, don't you have to then credit him for their drop when he left office?

We're talking about gas prices and inflation, not the economy. Try to keep up please.

But if you want to talk economy, I've asked before, but not many have been able to yet show any metrics for what parts of the economy are better in this trump term than they were under Biden. Jobs, GDP, inflation, wage growth, etc.
