Texas public schools to add Bible to public school curriculum, teach students about v
Quote:The State of Texas is poised to require Bible teachings to be taught in public schools, while implementing lesson plans that would draw stronger connections to Islam and violence. The Texas Board of Education, a Republican majority, voted on Wednesday evening to move toward final approvals.

The social studies proposal would mandate schools to teach Bible lessons and other literary works to students as young as six years old until they graduate from high school. This includes the Parable of the Prodigal Son, the eight Beatitudes, and the Christian story of Adam and Eve, the Texas Tribune reported.

The changes would take effect during the 2030-2031 school year if approved by the board on Friday. Supporters have argued that the Bible is important for students to understand American history and culture; however, critics claim that the revisions favor Christianity over other world religions, which they accuse of being portrayed negatively.

For example, the board gave preliminary approval on Wednesday for middle and high school students to be taught lesson plans that draw connections between Islam and violence. Dallas Morning News reported that one approved provision "would ask students to examine Islam through 'the Prophet Mohammed's brutal military campaigns.'"

Board member Brandon Hall introduced the amendment. His earlier version asked students to explain "the Prophet Mohammed's brutal military campaigns against Jewish and Christian tribes," and Islam's kidnapping of females to keep them as harem slaves. Additionally, board members struck down a standard that would require students to understand that Islam's brutal beliefs are found in the Koran, per the Dallas Morning News.

This comes as conservatives in Texas express concern about the influx of Muslims settling in the state, including the proposed construction of a 402-acre entirely-Muslim city on the outskirts of Dallas. The proposed site has been the subject of ongoing legal battles, with a judge recently ordering the state to allow it to be built.

If the board approves the lesson plans on Friday, they will become a part of standardized testing.

I am guessing Texas is doing a test for the SCOTUS to review. If Christianity courses can't be required, neither can any other religion.

There is no Separation of Church and State in the Constitution.

Directly from the first amendment…

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof."

Nothing there about teaching Bible lessons in school.

The idea of the Separation of Church and State comes from a letter written by Thomas Jefferson in 1802.

ANY mention of Government and Religion by the founding fathers was done to limit the Government’s intrusion into the Religious Freedom of Americans. Founding fathers never intended for ANY mention of Religion and Government to restrict Religion the way Liberals have tried to use it.

Personally I hope some “Democrat” (Commie) files a lawsuit. Take it front of the SCOTUS now and watch the court uphold Texas Rights.

And some of you have questioned why I am concerned about Christian Nationalism.

An example is, as with the Texas case noted above, a state/government mandating the teaching of the Bible in public schools and not the teaching of other faiths. I am fine with a course on world religions. But I don't want an evangelical Protestant teacher conducting Sunday school with my niece.

Our “Constitution was not sufficient for an immoral society.” - John Adams knew it and “Democrats” have worked hard to make that happen.

No single group has done more to destroy the moral foundations of our Nation than the Democrat Party.

Slavery
KKK
Anti-Civil Rights
Destruction of the Family
Abortion on Demand
Gay Marriage
Boys in Girls Sports
Transing of Children

I’m sure there are dozens of sick, twisted ideas Democrats have pushed as they’ve worked to destroy our Nation. The above are just the ones I could remember. Writing this makes me sick to my stomach.

America was founded on "Christian Nationalism". It is all over everything in this country. The Constitution is based off of it, our money has it on it, as well as every courtroom in America. I think it is of utmost importance to teach what the Bible is all about in Social Studies. Why did the founders of this great country use Christianity to start the most prosperous country to ever exist. If teachers use the Bible as a history book and use it to explain where the Founders were basing their beliefs to get freedom from tyranny, I don't see the problem. Children graduating high school are the most ignorant of history than ever in the history of this country. They know nothing about the Constitution, Geography or History. Nothing.

Sounds good. I'm Catholic. I'll get a job teaching in the public schools systems and lecture to the Protestant students that they should be carrying a crucifix and saying a Hail Mary each day.

On a serious note, there is some validity for using the Bible for world history teaching purposes. I'm simply cynical and don't trust most folks regarding how they want matters of faith (Christian or otherwise) applied by the government.

Dying and spending eternity in hell would be too but that's most certainly where you are headed if you don't repent and place your faith in Christ.

And you will have all eternity to look up and see all the believers in paradise and you having to realize how many times some of them tried to talk to you about the Gospel and where you were headed and how you rejected them and mocked them time after time until you finally realized they were right all along and it was too late.

You think the flames are going to be bad? THAT is what will likely torment you the most for all eternity.

When the White Throne Judgment comes, every one of you who say that will repent of that and wish with every fiber of your being we had taught every child in the nation from preschool on up that Jesus is real and He died for our sins and faith alone was our only salvation.

RE: Texas public schools to add Bible to public school curriculum, teach students about v
The Bible is the most accurate and detailed history book from antiquity that we have had and ever will have. Its unbelievable how much modern archeology has verified so much of it.

Not so long ago, it was taught that Solomon and David were not even real. Thanks to a ton of modern finds, we now KNOW they were real and much of the history found in the OT is spot on. They have even excavated a lot of the old city of David from 3000 years ago.

The fact that its not taught just from that perspective is a crime again humanity. How much more so the truth and validity of the Gospel?

If she avoids certain churches, that is guaranteed to never happen. Good for her, I guess, if she does. But it’s not helpful or honest to pretend that the scenario you describe could be linked to the proposal voted on by the TX Board of Education this week.

Be advised that many of the “public school systems” have a shrewd knack for weeding out the sort of applicants who hold the religious beliefs you claim to hold.

Quote:there is some validity for using the Bible for world history teaching purposes.
saying such a thing out loud would be a huge red flag for many of the same public school systems that I referred to above. Be careful who you say that to.

Quote:I'm simply cynical and don't trust most folks regarding how they want matters of faith (Christian or otherwise) applied by the government.
Any educational curriculum, no matter who designs it and no matter who implements it, is going to instill in its students some sort of viewpoint in regard to “matters of faith”. The only question is, which viewpoint will it be?

I’ll conclude by repeating a point I have said before and that I believe you agree with: Separation of School and State. It will eventually happen. But how much social division and strife must we endure in the meantime.

The separation of school and state concept is intriguing, with elements I would find beneficial to students, parents and society. But I'm not sure I fully support the movement — or even easily envision how our country having not public schools would work.

Now I suppose I contradict myself by noting this while also having posted many times that I support the overall concept of limited government.

Quality post, N-Georgian.

What Texas is doing is fighting the Communists from what they are doing in other states. Which do you think is worse for kids; teaching them the Bible or LBGT courses?
