I don’t see the Kings selling out the stadium again, this league is a bad joke. Was looking forward to it but it seems to be the wwe of football. I’m not wasting my time or $ on it. The Kings were poised for success but this league flushed it down the toilet last night. I’m dropping the Kings from my signature, I’m done.
Go Cards & Kings!
Do what you want obviously, but I feel like if this is the general reaction of the fanbase then we'll just be confirming the suspicions of all the haters who have said for years that Louisville isn't a pro sports town. The NFL and College Football have dumb rules too. In fact, the farce that is college sports right now makes the UFL look like the dictionary definition of sanity...but you aren't dropping the Cards from your signature.
I'm all in. If we quit on this team, no one loses but Louisville. I just don't see one odd overtime rule, that Mike Repole came out the next morning and admitted he doesn't like either (which I'm betting means it will change in the off-season) is a reason to just drop a team.
The way I see it, when adversity like this comes we can either prove the Louisville haters right or we can prove them wrong. To me, that's a pretty easy call.
I'm not loyal to the league or the officiating. I'm loyal to Louisville, and if I know this city, I bet I'm not alone.
If this league had an ounce of credibility it would be different. Such a rule would exist if the league wanted to choose winners & losers, it would make it extremely easy. “Hey ref, call defensive fouls on this team & not the other.” 2 penalties & 0 points later they secured the win for the team they want. Is this the WWE or football? I thought this was a football league, apparently I was wrong. I’m not the only one feeling this way, social media shares the same sentiment.
The league officially changed the overtime rule as of Week 4. They heard us.
Can they now give us more localized rosters like we were told that we would have? Does changing that ignorant rule now change their f up? That game should have been declared a draw. Gimmicks won’t make a league successful. I never said they were fixing games, I said the rule would allow them to do so. The officiating in that game was sub par. Numerous delay of games went uncalled on both sides. 2 DB’s going over the back of a WR driving him into the ground isn’t a PI? Redman wanted to challenge a TD catch but was told by the refs that it wouldn’t do any good since the replay guy already reviewed the play, his 1 angle of the catch.
As to one of your earlier points, I think having 2 current successful soccer teams & a long standing AAA baseball franchise shows that this city can support major league sports here. The UFL or the Kings failing won’t change that. Hockey has even done quit well here in the past. We’ve supported 2 pro teams here in the past, in baseball & basketball.
Go Cards!
The Colonels certainly did very well when they were here, but a lot has changed. U of L basketball wasn't yet a true national powerhouse in the 1970s. The Colonels left town when the Cards still had never won the national title and had only been to the final four once or twice.
But we haven't had MLB since 1899, so I'm not sure what you mean there.
I'm not sure if all of the support is as great as you imagine. Lou City has done great as a big fish in a small pond, but Racing is last in the NWSL in attendance by a really, really wide margin. Even the once well-supported Bats by have had declining attendance over roughly the last decade.
Hockey did okay-ish by ECHL standards, but when we stepped up to the highest minor league, the AHL, it moved out of town pretty quickly. The numbers just weren't there. It sounds like they intend to bring the ECHL back in a few years. That's probably a solid move.
As far as the Redman review, I think the initial call was wrong, but I also don't think anything about the replay was conclusive enough to overturn it. I think it was one of those calls that was going to stand either way, and they were trying to warn him in good faith that the evidence had already been reviewed.
As far as the earlier loss, I understand not overturning a game. The rules were what they were at the time. I honestly would have waited until the end of the season to change it myself, but they felt it more urgent I guess.
As far as the localized rosters, the deal was that each team would have first right of refusal to players from specific schools, but I don't want them to take local players just for the sake of being local. I want them to put together the best team they can, and it seems like they made some proactive steps in that direction this past weekend.
Anyway, we're tied for 5th in a league where 4th place is in the playoffs. Let's go!
