Who could win the BE Tournament who is NOT in line for an at-large bid?
After the last 2 games, definitely Providence.
If you’re one of the league’s top teams, who is the opponent you don’t want to see right now? Seton Hall? Butler? Or Providence?

problem for Providence is I don't think they could do it if they had to play in 3 or 4 straight days. especially at the pace they play at.

I think Bill means "hypothetically" ... if one of the Big East teams that is currently slated to land an at-large bid does not win the BE tourney, which remaining team is best suited to do so. He's not suggesting Providence will win the BE tourney.
I vote Providence. The "safe" wildcard is Butler but my wildcard (though I'm biased) is DePaul.
I don't foresee Xavier, Marquette or Georgetown having much shot at all (or DePaul for that matter).

I'm gonna go with Georgetown since they actually did exactly this under Ewing, lol. Then again, I don't think they have the ghost of John Thompson guiding them this go 'round.
In all seriousness I don't see any team outside of the top 6 having a shot at winning the BET. The low hanging fruit would be Providence, as they're the only team outside of the top 6 that is in the top 100 of the NET. But I just don't see it happening. Georgetown would probably be #2 since they are currently without Iwuchukwu and they played much better with him healthy earlier in the season.

Not sure if Creighton qualifies, but they could be dangerous. The other team I would agree with is Providence, since both they and Creighton seem to be improving the most as the season progresses.

Iwuchukwu is back and played some vs. DePaul. Of course, the Hoyas looked terrible regardless.

I actually didn't even realize this, despite the 1st half box score being posted in this thread. I really wonder what has made their performance fall off a cliff if he's back and they're still playing terribly

I've seen on TV parts of at least six Georgetown games this year. Mack's effectiveness has dipped and that has hurt. The Hoyas seem to offer only modest chemistry and confidence. Cooley doesn't seem "focused" when the cameras show him on the sideline. I just don't know.
I had reasonably high hopes for GU this season. But now the campaign for the Hoyas could turn disastrous. As a casual fan of the program ... it's disappointing.

I get what you're saying about Cooley. I don't think focused is the word I would use, but rather I would say he looks as if he lacks confidence in his team. You go back and watch some of the games when he was coaching one of his top 25 Providence teams and he seems zoned in whenever they cut to him on the sidelines. Idk how to describe what I see from him on the sidelines at Georgetown other than he looks like a mid major coach playing a dominant team who knows he has less than a 10% chance to win most nights.

Cooley sometimes offers an expression that suggests his mind is somewhere else. It's kind of odd. Maybe it's just me.

Georgetown is looking like a team to be reckoned with in the Big East Tournament. Currently on a 4 game win streak and shortly before that started, took UConn down to the wire.

To me for Georgetown to have any prayer, they'd need to move up to #5. Right now they'd have the worst possible seed at 6. Have a tough 1st round game with 1 of Providence, Marquette, or Butler(yes, Butler is tied for last) and then possibly a 3 game stretch of Villanova, St John's, and UConn.... There aren't many teams in the country that could survive that stretch.

Georgetown is playing well now and, on paper, might be best suited (along with Seton Hall) to be one of the eight Big East teams that currently is not a NCAA tourney team and that could win the Big East tourney.
Frankly, none of the eight looks very strong overall. This has simply been a down year for the league, as we all agree.
However, and on a positive note, the "power trio" of UConn, SJU and VU looks collectively strong.

Georgetown travels to Storrs, CT tomorrow to take on the Huskies. UConn barely prevailed last time, winning by 2 points after a furious 2nd half Georgetown rally fell short. In that game the Hoyas outshot and outrebounded the Huskies and forced more turnovers. But Georgetown was called for 20 fouls and UConn got to shoot 24 FTs. That was the difference in the game as they outscored the Hoyas by 10 from the line. Center Julius Halafionua fouled out of that game in just 8 minutes. Iwuchukwu is averaging 11 points and a team high 6 rebs per game since he’s returned from injury. He makes them a different team.
Georgetown will be tested tomorrow, but so will UConn.

If the Hoyas beat UConn tonight, I shall celebrate by strolling Lower Broadway at midnight in my onesie adorned with Winnie the Pooh imagery and with my pet warthog (leashed, of course) in tow.

Georgetown came back from 14 down in the 2nd and took UConn to the wire. Cut it to 2 in the final seconds before losing by 4. This is clearly a different Georgetown team than it was earlier in the season.

Mulready shot out of his mind tonight, we also almost completely choked that game away at the end. But credit to Georgetown where it's due, Lewis came ready to play and was trying to will that team to victory. Mack had some nice plays and Vince I played well too.

I think Georgetown and Xavier both are playing much better than the NET and other diagnostics are giving them credit for. I wouldn't be surprised to see one or both of them pull off a major upset in the BET.

Who would have thought who would be front runner going into the Big East Tournament?
At one point it looked like it could be Providence with their win over St. John’s and them taking UConn into OT. But they ended the season in disappointing fashion.
Georgetown had a 4 game winning streak into early February and they seemed like the team to watch for a while.
But here we are and the hot team who is the prime dark horse candidate to pull upsets is . . . Marquette! Who would’ve thunk it?
