Haven't seen this officially confirmed, but apparently we are hiring Toledo HC Jason Candle to be our next HC at UConn. If true, I love the hire. 81-44, never had a losing season in 10 seasons as Toledo HC. Only 46 years old so still relatively young. He will have more resources here.

It’s already on his Wikipedia page. I’ll take that as confirmation.

On paper, Candle is a strong hire. Congrats to our UConn posters!

Thanks, bill! We may have actually gotten an upgrade in this cycle, Candle is a proven even HC. Some other details:

From what I've heard, the deal is 6 years and between 2.5-3m per year. Seems like he has a really similar deal to what Mora got at CSU in terms of average annual value.

The hire comes with an upgrade to the assistant coaching salary pool, as well as upgrades to both NIL and rev share. We were already pretty competitive with most of the "G" in terms of NIL/rev share so this is great news. Many UConn fans are hoping we are able to retain Sammis (our OC) and bring in Candle's DC from Toledo.

Now portal season, and thus the only fun the off-season brings, begins!

We are funding the full revenue share next year so that is not because of a new coach, but it is good nonetheless.

One positive thing (among others), NLess: Candle is 46. Perfect age for a college football head coach.

The tweets I saw mentioned "NIL/revenue sharing" which is the only reason I wrote it that way. I agree, they probably meant increased NIL and were just trying to convey we would have more money for roster building.

It's crazy he's been a head coach there for a decade and is only 46. As someone said on The Boneyard, his career still has decades left to it. He could potentially spend 4 years here (like Mora) and if he performs well potentially have P4 offers (or even help get UConn into a P4 conference) by the age of 50. He would still be considered young for a head coach at that point

Bowl game and opponent announced: Fenway Bowl vs Army. Little disappointing to be in Fenway back to back years, but we set an attendance record there last year so hopefully we sell a lot of tickets again.

Would've preferred a stronger opponent as well, but not sure how many players will be opting out with the coaching change. So needless to say I am content overall

With UConn FB's current Independence I'm just glad they even get invited to a bowl considering they have no tie-ins. So I'm okay with the Fenway Bowl on Back-to-Back years. It's also a nearby bowl that will allow UConn to more easily sell its full allotment. Selling tickets its the priority right now as UConn FB continues to rise from it darker years. Hoping for better weather than last year

It turns out I'll be in Boston the weekend of the 27-28th. So I'm planning to buy tickets for the Fenway Bowl. My first bowl game.

Yeah I was more disappointed in the opponent than the bowl. I wanted one of the top 5 teams from The American or a P4. But, Army is still solid. Plus, we have no idea who we will even have available for the bowl game, with 15 people currently in the portal and our DC departing to head back to Mississippi State.

RE: UConn Football General Discussion
We have officially signed our first recruit under Jason Candle, former 4* QB (and Toledo commit) Bo Polston. He is currently rated as a 3* as he did suffer an injury and his rating dropped as a result. Rated slightly higher than Carter Emmanuel, our recent decommit who committed to CSU with Mora. This helps offset that loss and is overall a great pickup.

We also lost OC and current interim HC Gordon Sammis to TCU, he will become OC there. Was expected when we brought in Candle but many held out hope we could retain Sammis. He is a great developer of offensive linemen and really good offensive coordinator. Our offense was terrible before he got here, but we had a top 40 scoring offense last year and top 20 scoring offense this year. He did an incredible job. Wish him the best at TCU!

Bell and Fagnano are both out for the Fenway Bowl. This was rumored after it was announced we would be playing in Fenway again, but still sucks. Our shot at 10 wins takes a huge hit with this news.

Cam Edwards did confirm he will be playing despite entering the portal, thankfully

RE: UConn Football General Discussion
Haven't posted in here for awhile (didn't want this thread getting in the way of all the basketball posts, since I know that is what most people come to this board for.) However I wanted to note Skyler Bell was selected in the 4th round (pick 125) by the Buffalo Bills. Great landing spot for him with Josh Allen, he has a chance to make an immediate impact in that offense.

For those interested I plan to revive this thread a bit more by listing all of our portal pickups (we had a great haul) in the coming weeks. Probably early May is when I will begin. Just want to let the transfer portal news take center stage for a bit longer, I'll give it a chance to wind down first.
