I get the concept, but just don't believe it's going to be all that effective. Especially not in the short term. It's going to take YEARS to make any real positive impact IMO.

For starters, there simply is not an American alternative to everything. And when there is, the cost of the American alternative will most likely be raised higher to meet or just beat the cost of the foreign made alternative. Again, the American companies have an obligation to their shareholders to maximize profits, so cost increases are inevitable. Not to mention they're going to go up anyway if things are made fully here due to the higher cost of labor, materials due to tariffs as most things can't be made with 100% American parts, and higher costs of infrastructure.

Lastly, I don't buy that the targeted nations are ending up absorbing much of the cost. The importers pay the tariffs. They absorb ALL the cost. And that cost will then be passed on to the American seller which will absorb some of the cost, and the rest will be passed along to the American consumer as a tax.
