I'm sure he could get 50 votes.
Susan Collins, Lisa Murkowski, Rand Paul, Thom Tillis are “no” in that circumstance. That leaves 49 in favor.
Tillis immune to pressure now that he is not running again.
Figure out exactly what each of the 4 wants and the one with the best bid gets what they want. Collins and Murkowski are subject to influence. Don't know what Tillis's deal is. Paul would probably rather see the government shut down and save money.
I'm cool with that ... just not for their reason(s)...
btw ... I'm not sure what y'all are arguing when it takes 60% with the filibuster ... force their hand!!!
if those pubs go that route, so be it ... fk them, too...
it's now or never with this bs...
You can change the rules.
Like Owl said, the evil party and the stupid party.
Just allow it for temporary spending to avoid shutdowns.

John Thune could make the Senate work like it was designed.

Rand Paul will vote yes if it means passing the bill. JD would break the tie in that scenario.

Figure out exactly what each of the 4 wants and the one with the best bid gets what they want.
Murkowski wants a trillion or dollars in additional health care spending. Collins wants to avoid a 51-50 vote until after she’s re-elected again. Tillis wants Trump to fųçķ off. And — as you pointed out — Rand Paul wants to shut down the government. So I’m not sure which of those is the best bid.
But really, if the Thune or Trump or the GOP was able to make this move, they would’ve done it already.

Link? did he say that in the last few days? That doesn’t seem like the sort of move he would ordinarily make.

People acting like a shut down is a huge deal only do so for political reasons. Shut downs have happened before, and guess what, the world didn't end.

So, you live in Virginia, but want 100k people to lose their jobs and leave the state? You might want to think that through a bit?
Estimates are that each resident contributes $11k per year to the state alone, that's $1.1B each year per 100k people.
Each residents contributes around $70k in GDP per year. That's $7B per year per 100k people.

So we should keep thousands of extra fed gov workers in DC so it doesn't hurt the state of Virginia?

Vance at his best, shorn of profanity and rhetoric excess.

Quote:1996. Chuck Schumer rails against illegals getting taxpayer funded benefits because it incentivizes more illegal immigration:
“People say, why can't you stop illegal immigrants from coming here?"
“The number one answer we give our constituents is when they come here, they can get jobs, get benefits against the law because of fraud."
Chuck is now threatening to shut down the government over illegals getting taxpayer-funded healthcare.

After the 1990 Census, New York went from 34 to 31 in the House of Representatives, and Schumer was left with a rather conservative district for several years. That’s when he would’ve been under a lot of pressure to make speeches like that ^^^^
