This comment is as much for everyone as it is you personally bro.
Its key to understand that its not about denominational doctrine or dogma. There is no salvation in any denomination or church be it Roman Catholic, Eastern orthodox, Protestant or Evangelical. There is no special sauce or special path or special power or sainthood in any of those things. Salvation comes from ONE THING and ONE THING ALONE....faith and trust in the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus. FULL STOP.
Our faith MUST be rooted in Christ and the Gospel, not our denominations.
That is what the NT teaches, that is what the 1st and 2nd century church fathers wrote and taught. Catholic, Eastern and some of these other dogmas really began starting in the 3rd century with Origin and St Augustine and branched out and grew from there. It was mixing in of man made unbiblical doctrines and even pagan practices and traditions.
As guilt as Protestants eventually became as well as time went on, the reformation began because literacy rose and people were increasingly reading the NT for themselves and saw how different the NT teachings and doctrines were from the 15+ centuries of dogmas and practices that slowly crept in little by little into the RCC.
The early church of the first century met in small groups in peoples houses. Many modern denominations would not recognize an early church gathering if they saw it. It would be totally foreign to the denominational practices they grew up in.
What we should be seeking is truth, and not seeking what makes us just feel more comfortable. A lot of people want the former more than the other though. That can be a tough adjustment for some, but its an important one if we want to live out our faith and grow in spiritual wisdom the way Jesus wants us to.
