UC OT: The People's Elbow
Linda McMahon and the WWF Peoples Elbow...

UC is one of 52 schools that just got hit with a Department of Education Title IX rectal exam for its graduate schools violating SCOTUS ruling on race based admissions and exclusionary policies.

UC is also among the 60 schools being investigated for allegedly allowing anti-Semitism on campus.

It would be one thing if these lists were simply a whos-who of top universities. But it is definitely not.

List of schools that are on both lists:
Arizona State
Cornell
George Mason
Ohio State
Tulane
U. of Cincinnati
U. of Michigan
U. of Minnesota
U. of South Florida
U. of Washington
U. of Wisconsin
Yale

UC was a leader in paying out on Title IX suits. Lots of attorneys getting paid.

Pinto might have some splainin' to do at some point.

I had a plaintiff lawyer in town who does this sort of work tell me this a few years ago. He has sued other schools other than UC, but has told me the money has been very easy because most schools are afraid to try the cases and end up settling them. He stopped taking other types of cases to focus on this.

There are a few exceptions like Yale, Cornell and Tulane but the trend I see are large, urban schools with large graduate enrollments. These schools are trying to beef their numbers up, increase their diversity figures up and as we know, some of these students come from counties who are paying the bill. These schools know that these countries are paying sticker-price in full.

RE: UC OT: The People's Elbow
UC apparently keeps trying to work around the Supreme Court decision in the Harvard case where they were moving Asians down the list for less deserving students in different ethnic baskets. It also puts the schools in a weird spot since they are being sued under the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Education Amendments of 1972 which most administrators can probably recite like a Henry Wadsworth Longfellow poem. Easy money because it's often a lay down hand. Don't waste the $$ on motion practice and discovery in a losing cause.

RE: UC OT: The People's Elbow
I have a feeling UC’s growth bubble is about to burst.

We compete against a lot of other universities in our backyard. Demographics in Ohio had and will continue to be problematic. There are larger dynamics at play with respect to higher ed, the cost and ROI on same.

Athletics is a problem as well. UC’s growth period in enrollment took place during a period of time where we have been regionally and at times nationally relevant in football. We captured a lot of high school students who would not have previously considered UC in prior decades- kids from Northern Ohio and out of state.

One of the issues with the growth mode is that it seems UC has not done anything to improve the program offered at UC. There was a time where a lot of programs were nationally ranked, many of those have either fallen out of the rankings or slid down.

We’ll see what happens- I just think some rocky times are ahead and the university better be prepared to navigate the rocky waters.

Another academic note, UC has hired a new Executive VP and Provost. An interesting note is the new hire’s background is in Dentristry and UC does not have a dental school. The only Ohio schools with a Dentistry program are OSU, Case Western and a new one to be opened this fall at the NEO College of Medicine (NEOMED).

It's a little surprising, but looking at his career path it's pretty typical for provost candidates--department chair, dean, provost at a smaller school. From afar, it seems we have developed a bit of a pipeline from Louisville which would concern me to some degree since someone once told me Louisville aspires to be UC in terms of academic and research profiles.

Then again, if we polled Bearcat Banter few would even be able to name the last two provosts while we can all name decades worth of football and basketball coaches.

I wouldn't make any connection between the two...I think it is more noteworthy that he is also coming over from Louisville, don't love that there seems to be a very straight road between leadership spots for both institutions. Hope he was selected from an exceptionally strong pool of candidates and not because he worked with our President for a half decade.

We do have the UC Blue Ash College Dental Hygiene program so maybe it wouldn't necessarily be starting completely from scratch if we added it.

The guy who hired Satterfield and Chris Mack or the guy who extended Satterfield and hired Kenny Payne?

The guy with the proven ability to grow an athletic program, so it could afford to get rid of bad coaches when necessary.

If students protested against the war in Palestine, they were considered anti-Jew or pro terrorist (pro Hamas) which is not accurate. It’s cancel culture. And going after people.
If you say something about Jizzle James it doesn’t mean you are anti black or racist or anti-Florida.
