We signed up to protect Ukraine when they gave up nukes.

The threat was that in a decaying former USSR state they wouldn’t be able to secure nuclear weapons and they would be stolen / sold to the Middle East. The cost to keep those weapons out of the hands of potential terrorist states was our agreement to pledge support for the security and national sovereignty of Ukraine.

They kept up their side of the deal. We didn’t.

This is by far the main reason why Ive been ok with giving or selling them weapons. I have zero interest in sending troops----but I do feel we are a major reason they are getting invaded (Russia would never have invaded Ukraine if Ukraine still had nukes). So---if Ukraine wants to resist---giving the tools they need to resist seems reasonable since we did tell them we would aid them if they were attacked as part of our effort to convince them to give up their nuclear weapons.

Exactly. As you said in another thread related to this topic, you don’t bite the hand that feeds you. That’s what Zelenskyy did yesterday. Now you can say Trump and Vance should’ve handled it better than they did. (I disagree with that, but I’m human.) But if Z hadn’t have done what he did at all, we wouldn’t be here right now.
