This deal will be signed by this time tomorrow. Zelensky's advisors wore him out in the SUV. Everything Trump said was correct. As I said a few weeks ago: Zelensky has no cards and has already lost his shirt.

And all the more reason you don't treat him like dog manure.

I was always concerned that Vance came from white trash drugy/alcohloics. He showed it today. It was going fine until Vance jumped in. Trump and Zelensky were having a respectful discussion.

Seriously ! Are you kidding me?

Trumps face was turning so red I thought his head was about to explode.

Thank God we have people like JD Vance in leadership roles

I couldn’t be more proud of the way Vance talks to these stuffed shirts about reality. I honestly can’t think of one other guy who says stuff to these hypocrites face that most would shy away from.

If you don’t want to hear the truth it’s on you not Vance.

I’m sure Kamala would have said and did the right things to satiate your palate

Why was JD even there? Trump doesn’t need a backup or a bulldog.

I don’t remember a VP being in that role before. Although I could be wrong but I certainly don’t remember one that interjected his self into the discussion as JD did.
Well the last 40 years of VPs have been retards so there is that

For the past four years the US had NO partnership with Ukraine. Ukraine was a welfare recipient of the US because our POTUS at the time has skeletons in closets there. This isn't difficult. The US gained absolutely nothing from providing Ukraine with arms and treasure. Trump was trying to change that. Trump was alive during the Vietnam War. The US fought in Vietnam with absolutely nothing to gain if we "won". No difference with Ukraine. The bleeding for the US stopped yesterday. Let Europe worry about it, because nobody in the US should.

An excellent attempt to avoid an answer.

What exactly is it that you want the US to do?

How about chit or get off the pot. Both sides of the political isle beetches about color revolution and coups. We are getting one in plain site and now we rally to it. Trump wants something for nothing it seems. You don’t go back and demand money back that was offered as a gift. Unfortunately that is what Trump is doing here. I totally understand that and I get it but if it doesn’t work just let it go. Don’t be afraid of the aftermath or the results if you don’t give a chit.

Russia can stall and reject this deal too. Then continue the war as Ukraine is weakened. Take it all which is their original plan. Trump has already said that he and Putin have discussed economic partnership. We will just end up being held hostage for REM from Russia. A great plan.

So what happened yesterday was Trump's fault?

Zelensky had already agreed to the deal, and Ukraine's Parliament had ratified it.

Then Zelensky gets into the photo op meeting and tells Trump he is not signing until the US gives Ukraine a security guarantee. We had already explained that this was a 3 step process to achieve peace. First, commitment to the minerals deal, so we know we will be deeply involved in Ukraine, which in itself would be a deterrent to Russia. Then a cease fire. Then a peace agreement.

Than all hell broke loose.

Unfortunately, some people, even those who are on our side, just can't see the forest from the trees. Seriously, SoMs Eagle and bullet, trust the process. Trump knows exactly what he's doing.

And as for why Vance was there, because he's part of the Administration and this was official Administration business. Same thing with Rubio, same thing with Waltz. Whether or not Trump "needed" him there is a moot point.

RE: Trump to Zelenskyy: "You're gambling with World War III!"
A close acquaintance who is close to fluent in Russian and has working knowledge in Ukrainian said Zekenskyy screwed himself trying to negotiate in English. Should have used a translator which would slow things down for him.

BTW, the English word "Costume" is very similar phonetically to the Russian/Ukrainian word for suit. So when he used that it probably wasn't a dig.

Quote:Many of you probably watched what took place between Donald Trump and Zelenskyy tonight. Whether you're a Democrat or a Republican, you might be thinking to yourself, Oh my God, Donald Trump just screwed up.

However, let’s look at the difference between what you believe you witnessed and what actually happened.

Donald Trump has been under constant political persecution since the beginning of his first term. Over time, he has learned to be patient and calculated.

Tonight, Zelenskyy was invited to the Oval Office. However, both Trump and JD Vance knew exactly what Zelenskyy was going to do—he would use this opportunity, in front of the American people, to make a power play. Both Trump and Vance anticipated this.

When Zelenskyy began appealing to the emotions of the American people, JD Vance stepped in, accusing him of disrespecting Donald Trump. This was brilliant strategy. It’s important to understand that Zelenskyy is trying to gain access to NATO.
Trump knew this but could not allow it to happen. If Ukraine joins NATO, the U.S. would be bound by NATO’s collective defense agreement—an attack on one is an attack on all.

Now consider the larger implications: Ukraine and Russia despise each other. If Ukraine were to become a NATO member, any future skirmish between them would obligate the U.S. to enter into direct conflict with Russia. This would mean World War III. And if that happened, China would have to choose a side—they would almost certainly align with Russia.

So what you witnessed tonight was a setup. Trump and JD Vance knew that the only way to achieve peace was to strategically align, at least on the surface, with Russia. Why? Because Russia would never sign a peace treaty if Ukraine were admitted into NATO.

This is why Trump dismantled Zelenskyy’s argument. And when Zelenskyy, seeing his play failing, tried to backtrack and offer a treaty, Trump refused.

Zelenskyy’s real intent was clear—he would not agree to peace unless security guarantees were in place. But what was he actually saying? That NATO must accept Ukraine. However, Russia would never agree to peace, knowing that NATO, their historical adversary, would surround them.

Zelenskyy, Putin, and Trump all knew this. Zelenskyy, thinking he had Democrats' support, believed he could make this bold move on live television. But Trump and Vance saw right through it and outmaneuvered him.

They knew that, in the short term, Democrats and the media would try to use this moment against them. But they also knew they had two years before midterms to prove their strategy was the right one. So they held their ground—brilliantly so.

Now, Zelenskyy will have no choice but to back down and accept Trump's terms. But here’s the genius part—Trump is actually protecting Ukraine without dragging the U.S. into war.

By negotiating a mineral deal, Trump ensures that Americans will be involved in Ukraine’s mining industry. This prevents Russia from launching an invasion, because attacking Ukraine would mean endangering American lives—something that would force the U.S. to respond.

Trump played both sides like a master chess player. In the end, Zelenskyy will have no choice but to concede, because without U.S. support, Ukraine cannot win a prolonged war against Russia. And once U.S. companies have mining operations in Ukraine, Putin will be unable to attack without triggering massive international consequences.

Don’t underestimate Donald Trump. In this game of chess, he’s 10 moves ahead of everyone.

And that's why what happened was good for us. Some on our side aren't looking at the bigger picture. Well, there's the bigger picture, all laid out for everybody to see.

That’s quite grand. IF Russia lays down and allows us to just waltze in and start mining. Please explain what happens between now and then since mining isn’t going to start tomorrow. That’s a pretty big part of the 10 moves ahead.

I'm gonig to say this once and for all for everybody to hear: PUTIN WILL NOT ATTACK UKRAINE IF WE ANY KIND OF PRESENCE THERE! It doesn't have to be a military presence either. Just having American contractors helping the Ukrainians extract REMs from their soil will be a deterrent against any further Russian aggression.

I'm about done arguing the point. If you can't see it, that's not my fault nor is it my problem.

Absolutely right. Unfortunately, some who should get that are either blinded by outdated (though I will say still somewhat valid) hatred of Russia or just missing the point. Oh, well. No sense in arguing it anymore. They'll either get it or they won't.

And that's why what happened was good for us. Some on our side aren't looking at the bigger picture. Well, there's the bigger picture, all laid out for everybody to see.

There was no secret to that. Trump said in the meeting yesterday that once Americans were mining in Ukraine that Russia wouldn't attack.

What happens tomorrow? Will there be a Ukraine to make a deal with and get our money and profit back from?

If there isn't, it won't be our fault. Zelenskyy's the one who screwed the pooch. It ain't my fault he's prone to renege, as we've seen on three separate occasions with this deal. This is on him. Luckily, his own government sees that. Why can't you?

Which again goes back to what I said earlier. A lot of us are tired of the endless wars and proxy wars where we play world police only for a select few of the elite to enlarge their bank accounts and gain power.

Didn't Albert Einstein say something about doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result? Oh, yeah. He did! He called that "the definition of insanity," and he's right now as he was right back then when he first said it.

Have they agreed to this deal or are we just throwing chit against the wall for nothing?

Will Trump have his come to Jesus with Russia or will Putin tell him “I’m not Zelinsky”?

Can Russia take it all if they reject this offer and keep on fighting a diminished Ukraine? Seems like exactly what they would want.

Seems we are leaving out a key ingredient to the success or failure of the Trump offer.

Either way this will not be the end of the killing as Trump thinks. It will continue at some point in the near future.

To the best of my knowledge there is NO peace deal or cease fire agreement with Russia happening anytime soon. Lavrov in fact publicly rejected any idea of a quick ceasefire to stop the fighting while a long term peace deal is hammered out. Lavrov said they will only agree to a ceasefire once a comprehensive long term peace agreement is formally agreed to. That’s not my opinion—that’s me paraphrasing the Russian official position directly from the mouth of the Russian foreign minister and head of the Russian negotiating delegation.

I’d also add that both he and Rubio have both indicated neither have even begun to talk about any Ukrainian Peace Deal details. Basically, the talks up to now have merely consisted of talks about restarting relations and communications. Basically talks about talking.

Frankly, a public show that makes it clear Ukraine is likely to be low on ammo by as soon as this spring or summer would be a good way to make sure Russia is in no hurry to reach a ceasefire. It’s also something Zelensky can’t afford to let happen to his people—-so I suspect he will be back fairly soon, in a suit and tie, mouth shut, hat in hand and showing the proper gratitude—ready to sign the deal. He simply has no real choice.

Good Golly! There's no one left but Europe to protect our boi Z. That can't be good...

I just hope no more blood is shed in this senseless conflict.

Pretty sure that is/was the point in the first place.

Instead this chucklebuck seems to think that he (alone) can goad the U.S. into what he claims is “security”.

I.e. U.S. military deployed to Ukraine.

For what? What is possibly in our interests? I read here that there are NO rare earth minerals. So why bother?
Not sure how that’d be the case since every other northern ice plate region is pretty loaded, but ok, I haven’t looked just yet.

If so, what are our interests other than the declared, Saving lives?

Trekky said it himself “We have an ocean”. 2 actually. 04-coffee from sea to shining sea. God bless America.

As WasSoMiss, AttackCoog and I have discussed numerous times. History tells us that being like Neville Chamberlin is stupid. He gave an aggressive dictator what he wanted and that lead to the worst war in world history. The Cuban missile crisis was because JFK wimped out at the Bay of Pigs and on several other occasions. That weakness shown to the USSR lead us the closest to nuclear war ever.

We think your approach is much more likely to require American troops. All you have to do is listen to Putin and other top Russian leaders about what they want to do. He thinks the end of the USSR was the worst thing ever to happen to Russia. He demanded NATO get out of east European countries. His aides have made it clear that Moldova was next after Ukraine. They have also talked about taking back the Baltics. They have already helped elect a favorable leader in Hungary who is undermining NATO and the EU. They really want Poland to be a puppet state as it was part of the Russian empire much of the time prior to WWI. They want a land bridge to Kalingrad.

They have a clear pattern of action in Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine. They trigger an ethnic minority to revolt and establish a mini-state supported by Russian mercenaries and Russian secret service. Then they try to take over the whole country. They have been trying to do the same thing in Latvia and Estonia with Russian minorities for 20 years. Once they get a foothold, they are assuming the west won't physically force them out and risk a war.

If we don't stop them before Esontia and Latvia, we will have a NATO-Russia confrontation there with American troops involved.

Those who ignore history are doomed to repeat it.

Please Mr Historian enlighten me on Russian Military successes save WW2 where supplied logistics and weaponry.

Comparing Russia or China to Germany or Japan is like comparing a Chinese or Russian car to a Mercedes or Lexus.

You’re comparing apples to lemons

Germany was an absolute war machine that was murdering Jews in the process. Russia's military is a joke as we've been told repeatedly here by the most gung-ho Ukraine supporters. The fact they can't see the difference is mind-blowing to me.

I’m not in anyway suggesting another Bullchit war with American boots on the ground. Don’t put words in my mouth.

I am simply asking the question of exactly what signing this particular agreement will do for anyone. I have not heard that Russia has agreed to end the fighting if only Ukraine will sign this deal. We don’t give them anymore aid and every swinging dick here says Ukraine will lose. Why sign this deal. It seems like a show if there is no more guarantees of weapons to keep the Russians at bay. So far I think this has embolden Putin. If this deal includes supplying the Ukrainians with real weapons immediately or Putin publicly saying he will agree to end this war it means absolutely nothing.

This doesn’t look good for anyone in my eyes. Trump has overstated his ability to end this war and I think his animosity has focused on Zelinsky. Along with a lot of people here. He needs to just not say another word about it and leave them out to dry. Just as Shere Karen says. Let the Russians have their prize and deal with the negative press and consequences later because without the Ukraine holding on to what’s left of their country there will be no REMs for America to mine.

We signed up to protect Ukraine when they gave up nukes.

The threat was that in a decaying former USSR state they wouldn’t be able to secure nuclear weapons and they would be stolen / sold to the Middle East. The cost to keep those weapons out of the hands of potential terrorist states was our agreement to pledge support for the security and national sovereignty of Ukraine.

They kept up their side of the deal. We didn’t.

And it'll be Zelenskyy's fault for reneging THREE TIMES on a deal that his own government ratified, not our fault. Besides, if Putin knows that if he were to attack American contractors operating in Ukraine, we would be more than justified in nuking his ass, if we so chose to do so.

Zelenskyy tried to humiliate Trump by making a power play in front of the world (aka showed his ass) and Trump (and Vance) figuratively bitchslapped him and told him to sit down. If Ukraine loses their sovereignty, it won't be because of anything we did, especially after we've done more than any outside force has ever done for them since the fall of the Soviet Union. We're not asking them to bend over backwards. Not in the least! We're asking them to show some respect when coming into our house. Zelenskyy was a guest in our house and he ultimately chose to disrespect us after being told by Lindsey Graham and other Senators that disrespecting us would've been a bad move.

So what's the lesson here, folks? You reap what you sow. Zelenskyy's actions have triggered his possible ouster as the President of Ukraine by his own government. if anything happens to him no matter what that happens to be, including asssassination (God forbid, but it is a possibility), that will be on him, not on us.

Thank you for coming to my TED Talk. Don't forget to tip your waitress. Try the veal. I hear it's delicious!

So you think we should sign up to protect Ukraine no matter what? To hell with that. We did that in VietNam, and it cost us 58,000 American lives. For what? Absolutely nothing

We didn’t.

We along with Russia and the UK signed up to protect Ukraine. Russia reneged on it as soon as Putin became President of Russia. Please get it right.
