MyBB Women's Basketball 2024
After both FIU and ACU had great opening games against lower level opponents, they had quite the battle tonight in Florida. FIU and ACU went back and forth all night before FIU finally started getting some momentum in the 4th and got ahead by 8 with around 3 minutes left. The ACU women struggled to hit anything from far or near. They never gave up though, kept playing defense and kept pushing their shots and hitting the board. Eventually they got close with some shots and FTs, and then tie the game with just over 1 minute, an 8-0 run. ACU then goes up and holds FIU for the win, 76-73. There are several new faces on the women's squad this year and Goodenough seems to have them focused. It will be interesting to watch them as they progress. ACU starts the season 2-0.

Not a great start for UTA. They lost their guarantee game as expected, but a double digit loss to La Tech yesterday saw their three-point percentage in single digits and free throws at 50 percent.

I wasn't able to watch the game against SFA yesterday, but went through the stats and talked to someone that watched the last part. We started ok, but couldn't finish. As usual, when an opposing team brings heavy pressure against our women, we struggle. We had several turnovers toward the end. It looks like the whole 2nd half was worse than the first. In the end, we lost to SFA 68-65, close but no dice.

RE: Women's Basketball 2024
Women played a tough game against 3-0 Western Kentucky but couldn't get over the hump any time they got close. The bad thing is that one of our bigs, Meredith Mayes, is out with a badly sprained ankle. We ended up losing 68-64. We lost the other night to Tech 66-40, but that's expected. I was hoping for a rebound game tonight. We now sit at 2-4.

ACU women's BB just won the Florida International Thanksgiving tournament in Miami, beating FIU (again) in the final 87-67. Peyton Hull scored 29 and Bella Earle scored 18.

I didn't get to see the Sacramento St. game but heard about it Saturday at the NAU game. I was really pleasantly surprised. I missed today's while doing errands as well. Sounds like the women are really coming together more and it's good to have Meredith back.

It was great to see Meredith back and playing well. The girls are getting better but still make some shaky passes. Of course, when the passes work as intended, we get an easy basket.

ACU in Edinburg tomorrow night. It'll be good to see you down here again. We seem to be a bit stronger this year (upset Houston) so it should be a good game.

Indeed, it should be a good game to watch.

Yup, not close at all.

I was still impressed with the poise and shots I saw out of UTRGV. Your ladies do have some impressive wins, so I expect them to give their SLC opponents some trouble this year.

Thanks for the kind comments, and I'd like to attribute what happened to ACU being really good rather than us having issues. But I fear it's a mix of both.

And as we found out in WVB, the SLC aren't quite the pushovers some of us thought back in our WAC days. Even Corpus seems tougher and more rivalrous now....

Nice, I had seen where UTRGV had defeated them as well earlier in the season.

RE: Women's Basketball 2024
Women absolutely obliterated Howard Payne tonight 108-35. I felt bad for them. They have some really athletic players and made some good shots but were completely outgunned and outsized by the Cats. I really do like what I see this year and would say this has to be one of the best teams that Goodnenough has put together in a while. Besides being taller and longer, they are playing much more aggressively. What I loved tonight was the military appreciation and all the military families that were there. Too bad they left at halftime after the oath swearing...

RE: Women's Basketball 2024
I was just watching the stats and score on my phone while at the men's game. Ladies were tied 34-34 at the half with the same exact scores both 1st & 2nd periods. Ladies had a great 3rd period before UNM made a big push to come from behind in the 4th, but the Cats held them off 77-69. The ladies are definitely playing on a different level this year so far. They win both the FIU Thanksgiving Classic and the Lobo Invitational.
