Although I am blessed with good health, generally exceed health metrics (e.,g, LDL), exercise almost everyday, and maintain a healthy weight; I like junk food and will resist anyone taking it away.

I favor better education and publicity about additives and let the marketplace decide their consumption.

I want the stuff out that hurts kids and is banned in most other Western countries. And the stuff that addicts you to the junk food.

No one is talking about taking any junk food choices away from anyone. Removing a few unnecessary additives the rest of the world deems illegal and deadly is not taking away junk food.

I have a feeling several people are going to continue to vomit up this false claim anyway though. Most are simply ignorant of the topic, and this comment is concrete proof of it.

Exactly.. Rule of thumb for me is if I can't pronounce it or spell it when it's said to me, probably shouldn't eat it. You'd be amazed how fast weight falls off just by that one change.

RE: Junk Food Lobby's Plans to Derail RFK's Agenda
Whenever the discussion of food additives comes up I always go back to:

“Why are girls starting their menstruation cycle early than their mothers, grandmothers and great grandmothers?”

This isn’t an opinion. It’s a fact that many have seen in their own families. Read the articles the evidence is there. Here’s one from NPR.

“Girls in the U.S. are getting their first menstrual period about 6 months earlier on average than they did in the 1950s and '60s. And more girls are beginning menstruation before the age of 9, which is considered a very early age”

https://www.npr.org/sections/shots-healt...rly%20age.

A simple Google AI assisted search of:

“Foods that cause early puberty”

Yields the information below…

Some foods and drinks that may be associated with early puberty include:

Poultry neck meat: Contains growth-promoting drugs that can stimulate early puberty

Off-season fruits and vegetables: May contain harmful substances from artificial ripening and off-season cultivation

Fried foods: High-temperature cooking can alter the chemical structure of foods like French fries and fried chicken, which can disrupt the endocrine system

High-sodium foods: Can harm a child's digestive system and kidneys, and activate a hormone linked to reproduction

Animal organs: Can lead to weight gain and obesity, which can trigger early puberty

Soy milk: Contains isoflavones, which are similar to estrogen and can lead to early puberty in girls

Processed foods: Contain preservatives, colorings, and flavorings that mimic sex hormones

Sugar-sweetened soft drinks: Consumption is positively associated with the risk of earlier puberty

Other factors that may be linked to early puberty include:

Perfluorinated chemicals (PFCs): These man-made compounds are used in non-stick cookware and food packaging, and may interfere with normal hormone signaling

Parabens: These chemicals mimic estrogen in the body and can result in early puberty

A diet high in vegetables and protein may be protective against early puberty, while a diet high in animal foods and fruits may be a risk factor.

This isn’t about choices or freedom. It’s about taking care of our children’s health.

America has always followed its own path. We should listen and learn from European countries, but not automatically adopt their policies.

Furthermore, something clearly and demonstratively harmful like tobacco is not banned, but regulated (e.g., minors may not purchase). And the additives in question are not presently proven in the same harmful category as tobacco.

I have an open mind about the subject, but I am wary about the government issuing health mandates especially after experiencing the government's reaction to Covid.

I'd rather he go after Big Pharma. Doctors prescribe everything willy-nilly. The amount of people prescribed drugs has sky-rocketed. I think that's the thing people are consuming that harms them, not food. I think most people eat pretty healthy, people are so conscious of what they eat, I think most people are starving themslves. They call them drugs for reason. They may fix one thing but cause other problems. Democrats are trying to lower prescriptin drug prices & increase access to prescription drugs, the Republicans need to be the problem isn't the prices, the problem is the drugs themselves. You see people put on drugs & they gain weight. "May cause weight gain" on every drug label.

Ahh yes, tobacco is exactly the same thing as food. 01-wingedeagle

Do you even hear yourself?

Tobacco is not FOOD.

Items such as breakfast cereals are packaged as "complete nutritious breakfast", they do not come with giant warning labels on the package about them possibly causing cancer and God knows what else from a dozen different additives/ingredients. That is one of a million such examples.

where are some of yaz getting this from??? ... all I've heard is forcing the removal of damaging additives/chems (which fks up their world is he succeeds) that are currently being used (which in turn, damage the overall health of the country en macro)...

remember Jack Nicklaus .... remember how they called him fat .... it's b/c he was relative to the rest of the 'skinny winnies' in society...

all one has to do is look at any video from the 70s to today to realize how much we've changed relative to obesity ... the examples are endless if you'd open your eyes...

RE: Junk Food Lobby's Plans to Derail RFK's Agenda
I don't believe in the Nanny state either. That said, the levels of garbage in a lot of food is crazy. People live longer, but many live longer in much less healthy ways.

Most junk food is the food of convenience, and in todays world nobody has time to prepare real food, it simply takes too long. Grab a hot pocket and its done in 2 minutes. Prepare a home cooked meal takes 20, 30... 40 minutes. Instant gratification also is instant injection of additional schidt into your body. I am not picking on anyone, I love me some Hot Pockets (for example).

This is about education more than anything. Anything in moderation is OK, but living off of that kind of stuff is just begging for future health problems.

The point is tobacco is not banned and I do not want to ban ingredients in junk food that make it taste like junk food without clear proof the harm is at least as great as the harm from tobacco.

It you cannot see the point either I failed to communicate it or you cannot decode. Either way, it is fruitless to continue discussion with you on the topic.

AND AGAIN - no one is talking about banning any food choices or tobacco. That must be the 10th time this has been said now. No one is talking about or suggesting banning one single item on the shelf, that has nothing on earth to do with this topic. Many of these additives don't even have anytign to do with taste, they are dyes, preservatives and other things that have nothing to do with flavor or taste. You are just blindly throwing that stuff out there because you know virtually nothing about the topic.

Most of the world has already studied and banned many different additives that we use, they are scientifically proven to harmful. Many examples were already listed by other posters in previous posts.

There are already a mountains of research and evidence on this topic both across the world and here in the US. The fact that you don't know this already says it all.

We already know the studies and evidence are out there and we already know the reach, money and power of the lobbies of these billion dollar food conglomerates is why they are still in our food today.

It's funny.. My wife dives deep into food additives and such, and she found several studies linking behaviors to food dyes... When our kid gets out of sorts, we'll look at the foods he's been eating, and if there's certain food dyes/coloring in the food, we can cut that food or find something similar without it, and within a day he's back to normal. You wouldn't think a dye or food coloring will have that kind of a effect on a kid, but I can't argue with her assessment and the results..

I wrote: I do not want to ban ingredients in junk food that make it taste like junk food…”. Does the proposal ban ingredients in junk food that make it taste like junk food?

As I stated, I have an open mind on the subject and thus receptive to learning. Condescending posts like yours only hinders exchanges.
