He’s not remotely close to country lite. His lyrics are anything but lite… check out “Elephant” or “If we were Vampires”. Isbell is considered an Americana artist, in the same vain as Ryan Adams, Eric Church or Jeff Tweedy.

What are talking about?
The guy is considered by his peers to be one of the best songwriters in Nashville. Certainly, with any artist, some will like his music & others will not, but wanna be? I think it was Brad Paisley who said of Isbell… “he lives in a place as a songwriter that we get to visit every once in a while”.
Anyway, I thought I’d bring him up because he did go to Memphis & there are many Tiger fans in the forum… & some may not know about him because Americana doesn’t get the airplay that pop country now gets.

You seem like a douche loser who wasn't a cool kid. Time to grow up maybe?
RE: Is University of Memphis’ Jason Isbell the best triple threat In Nashville?
There is a big push in Nashville now (just like in sports) to have far left people pushed and celebrated to the moon. Sports, country music, NASCAR, Bud Light, these thigns and others have been seen as conservative stalwarts forever so hence they all out invasion of far left politics into all these areas from on high.
This connects with what I posted in the other thread, these thigns are NOT just some pendulum swing or business as usual, there is war being raged by billionaire secularists and corporations against anything seen as traditional American values. Its an undeniably coordinated effort to shame, bully, convert and purge all who won't get in line with their satanic, twisted marxist values and worldview.
You can't have the global new world order with a traditional America, we would never accept it because it goes against all our values. Particularly as America being an independent self governing people, by the people. So they have to marginalize and bully traditional values and people and if they can't they will have to take more extreme measures like Marshall law or the collapse of our republic into chaos.
Regardless of which, we are the ones in the way and they know it. So we have to be dealt with.
Remember, on the back of every US dollar says "The birthing of the New World Order" in Latin.

To be honest, I never had to think about it. Maybe, you did?

I've never heard of him until now so I watched him some. He's a good songwriter (not great but good), not a bad singer, hardly a great guitarist.
There are plenty of liberal musicians I don’t like.
The fact that one knows whether an artist is liberal or not is part of the problem. Why would anyone know that? It should have nothing to do with their work as an artist.
If it does, then are they an artist, or part propagandist for a cause? All those guys, either side, no thanks. Comedic efforts are the exception.

Exactly... That's the problem. Nearly 50 years ago I never knew or cared Ronnie Van Zant was for gun control. Even though he co-wrote "Saturday Night Special" he never once made it a point to push his politics. It was about the music and not his politics. Ronnie wasn't into virtue signalling but performing and having a good time doing it.
That's probably the reason our generation was happier than the teenagers of today.
Someone once ask Ronnie what the meaning behind "Free Bird" was.
From Wikipedia:
Van Zant replied that in essence, that the song is "what it means to be free, in that a bird can fly wherever he wants to go." He further stated that "everyone wants to be free...that's what this country's all about."
It's sad our young people have forgotten that and it shows. Boy would Ronnie be surprised.

The vast majority of music today is void of artistic license and is nothing more than a songwriting “formula” & auto tune… which is why a niche like Americana has an audience. Isbell is a lefty but his best work is focused more on the every day commonality… relationships, sobriety, advice from a father to a son… he’s a storyteller. For me, the craft is the ability to weave a novel into a 3-4 minute poem & Jason Isbell does it better than most.

This is a generalized statement & I know its not 100% applicable, but I believe most artists tend to be more empathetic… feelers; and its that empathy that allows them to tell emotionally tell a story. It’s also that empathy that might make them more apt to feel for those with less or the oppressed, which puts them on the left side of the political spectrum more times than not.
