Monday's Musings
A dreary Saturday allowed the home team to come out ahead and inch closer to a bowl game. The eagles MAC WEST fate might be decided in Dekalb where cold weather will remain, but no rain expected. speaking of remain how is Rocky Lombardi still in college? Does a 6th graduate year become the norm? Why even recruit high schoolers as a mac team? Live in portal and grad transfers may be the future. Hope the library on Michigan Ave gets fixed and revitalized.

Rocky was an absolute stud at powerhouse West Des Moines Valley. His brother Beau followed him at Valley and he was a star QB. Beau Lombardi went from star high school QB to a 6-2 300 pound lineman at Army. Both were also outstanding wrestlers.

Thanks for the Iowa history and perspective on Rocky, I doubt anyone on this board would have EVER delved into such information on their own.
Rocky had some success at MSU as well and seems to be a good guy. That said, SEVEN YEARS? Even Joey Hauser decided that it was time to find out if he had a pro career instead of competing against kids who were in the fifth grade when he was a High School senior.

Drew Timme comes to mind and he actually could have returned for another year at Gonzaga! I know I would have...a million bucks to school youngsters one more year and oh yeah, beautiful college coeds fawning over you. Easiest decision Timme ever had and he BLEW it!

You make a very good point about Timme, he is another version of Hunter Dickinson, Luka Garza, etc... Great college BB players whose game does not translate well to the current NBA. Hell yeah make money playing NCAA roundball if you can.
That stated, who said that Timme would make $1M staying at Gonzaga or transferring elsewhere? Dickinson claimed he made less than a TENTH of that while at Michigan and while I am sure Kansas upped his pay, did they really pony up a million?
In any case, I am awfully sure that no matter how legendary Rocky and his family exploits were in Iowa high school sports, he is not making anywhere near the aforementioned BIG money to play in Dekalb for NIU.

That's what I heard about Timme and Gonzaga is basketball crazy, so probably not too far off whereas Michigan basketball is second fiddle to football. As for Lombardi, I say good for these guys squeezing every last drop out of college football life before entering the real world. It does make me wonder what a top tier MAC football player brings in. Obviously not going to get rich but I bet it pays comparable to a first job.

It makes me wonder as well and wonder why someone would declare that Drew Timme turned down $1M with such a paucity of information as to such. Gonzaga may be BB crazy as you say, and Michigan BB is indeed second fiddle to football. Then again, Gonzaga plays in an arena considerably smaller than the Gervin, it is NOT a revenue generator of the magnitude of U-M BB, despite its "second cabin" status within the University. Great W-L records in a non-P-6 conference don't necessarily translate to financial wherewithal.
Gosh, you have a great existence, Bobby. You make silly declarations, wager big money without any intention of paying of your losses and point out missed predictions of fellow posters at will. Must be great to be the KEYBOARD WARRIOR FROM IOWA!

What a weird response. Are you bi-polar? I get it, you're past retirement age and stuck in Washtenaw County but don't take it out on me! Gonzaga basketball is a huge brand you f***wit, they could play in the Gervin-I-Got-Kicked-Out-Of-School-For-Assault-On-The-Court Arena in front of 876 fans and still make money.

Bobby, I live in Washtenaw County at my choice. I have season tickets to EMU sports and thoroughly enjoy them. I donate $5K to the athletics department annually which is matched by my former employer to a total of $10K. That amount is exactly the SAME dollar amount that you called "easy money" when you accepted my wager that Joey Hauser would NOT be in the NBA, three seasons ago. I was ready to pay if I lost and had the assets to do so. YOU LOST THE BET BOB! Dan McLean is still waiting for the money. Insults don't make $$$! Pony up or go away Bobaloo.
You must not have much scratch buddy, just a whole lot of mouth! You are not a math wiz either. Your attachment of Timmie's NIL valuation at $630K is a significantly short of the $1M you claimed in the previous post.
Maxx Crosby is horrible! Make dramatic bets and welch on them! Bobs world!

You think Drew Timme's NIL would have stayed static if he remained at Gonzaga? Gonzaga is preseason ranked #12 without their all time leading scorer. With Timme they'd be top 4, maybe #1. With constant TV exposure and his winning personality, he would have easily added more endorsements.
As for Joey Hauser, he had a great summer and camp with the Utah Jazz. The former 5-star recruit will no doubt be joining his brother Sam in the NBA in the not so distant future.
I've always said people who advertise that they are donating money to any organization are doing it for the wrong reason. When people donate $$$ for the right reason--no one will ever know except the person donating and the organization receiving the gift.
Maxx has maxxed out his potential and good for him but give me Aidan Hutchinson! The Lions are a juggernaut and I am so happy for the long suffering Lions fans!
Sports are fun, don't be so bitter!

Or stay in school and get one or two masters degrees paid for.

That works. If my Alex doesn't get to the next level, at least he will be leaving EMU with a couple of nice degrees that carry him well through life.

Joey is a very nice young man and I wish him well. Had he been in the NBA THREE YEARS ago as you wagered and called "easy money", I would I have written a $10K check wherever you wanted. It was obvious, however, that I was offering a sucker bet to a feckless person with a big mouth, so I proposed your donation go to EMU sports. You LOST the bet BIG MOUTH BOBBY, have not paid up and that is why you are WELCHERSHAM. Bitter? Why should ANYONE take what you post seriously? You are just fun (idiotic, comedic, lacking intelligence) after all.
Maxx has indeed maxed out, I will agree with that. Once you become one the most revered players in the NFL, where else can someone go? Bobby, it has to kill you every time the Raiders are discussed, and Maxx is first on the list.

Yeah, I had to rub salt in that Maxx Crosby wound that you have Welchersham.

Does a 6th graduate year become the norm? Why even recruit high schoolers as a mac team? Live in portal and grad transfers may be the future. Hope the library on Michigan Ave gets fixed and revitalized.
Rocky is in year SEVEN!
Or stay in school and get one or two masters degrees paid for.
Agree.

Ah yes, the movie Animal House was released my last year at EMU. It is truly a cinematic classic. Nevertheless, Bob you need to be put on "double secret probation" for your disdain of Maxx. LOL!
