Game Week EMU at CMU September 30
Will some of the walking wounded return? Any changes on offense? Conference play begins.

I was kind of distracted watching the game, but did we ever screen or run a draw?
I assume a screen would have been appropriate against the JAX defense.
Did C.C. hold back the play book?
Will we see the full squad and play book against CMU?

I’m thinking maybe CC takes control of the offense vs having a rookie coordinator coupled with too many new offensive pieces.

That could help I suppose, and correct me if I'm wrong, but Piatkowski isn't a rookie is he?
Didn't he run the offense most of last season, or am I remember that wrong?

RE: Game Week EMU at CMU September 30
Central is a 7.5 point favorite, ESPN has us with just a 25.1% chance of winning this game....I'm not feeling great.
Central didn't look good against MSU or New Hampshire (a FCS school they need a last second FG at home to win), but they played tough in South Bend against Notre Dame and just beat a good South Alabama team on the road. It seems as though since they went away from Emanuel and put in Bauer at QB they have started to turn it around. Bauer played a good game against South Alabama, and could lead to some problems for us.
Their weakness seems to be their secondary which is....not a great help to us since we can't pass the ball. I still think we need to try and establish the run game if we're going to have any luck passing the ball. Hopefully we get Knue and Paaske back this week. They do give up nearly a 140 yards on the ground as well, so it's not like they are great at that either. On offense they were a run heavy team, but are much more balanced with Bauer.
I think our defense and special teams can keep us in the game, I just have no confidence the offense will be able to do much. We'll probably need a touchdown from the D or special teams (or maybe one from both) to win the game.
One thing I will say...I admit I don't think we will win this game, however I'll feel okay if we lose, but are able to do things in the air against them. If we lose and can't throw the ball on them though...I'll have a very bad feeling about us winning a game the rest of the year.

according to CC we don't have Josh Scott the rest of the year damn, that's a blow as he was really good. The bright side is that Daiquan is getting starting reps and our secondary is really good. If Josh Scott returns next year, we are again really good back there

Something worth watching is what type of roster we field for this game. Others have mentioned that we may see some guys back for MAC play that may have been dinged up. Merrit, Haney, etc?
Again, everything hinges on whether our offense can somehow pull themselves out of this funk. If we can score a few and keep our defense rested, we stand a chance

Coach Pike called the offense the latter part of last year so no he isn't a rookie. He is also the QB coach and has been for a number of years here at EMU. He was a QB at Drake when CC coached there.

Also, as we weren't 't really very competitive, C.C. didn't have his OC open up the play book.
BTW, I agree with the comments THAT RichRod had two weeks to prepare for a homecoming game.
So 2 weeks to prepare, homecoming game, and Alabama heat. JAX had a lot of things going for them.
Instead of EMU and JAX pretend it was UofM and Alabama. Wouldn't Alabama have a big home advantage???

I hate losing to Central more than any other program.
I’m already depressed, anticipating the inevitable. : (

IF we get some guys back healthy
IF the coaches have Austin in good situations
IF we can get a pick 6 or special teams explosive play
IF we can get our defense to play like they have been
we stand a chance.

The guys on the Eastern podcast were speculating that EMU has been limiting Evans' playing time in order to have him fresh going into the MAC season. Might we see a heavy dose of Evans on Saturday?

I'm thinking we'll see more of him than we have been seeing, but I don't expect he'll be the workhorse for the whole game. There is a lot of season ahead, and keeping him healthy for the duration of the season will be a priority. Expect to see a good deal of Jaylon when they give Samson some breathers.

There was some mention on here that CC was the OC for the season excluding the last 4 games where Pike tok over. However in that scenario, it would be my understanding that CC set everything from spring practice until the last four games.

Unfortunately, That's alot of ifs........Evans needs to be the featured back! Needs 20 plus carries........He has NFL abilities as well! If we only score 10-14 points, we'll get embarrassed! Rich Rodriguez completely took Creighton to school last week! Don Brown also did, but we found a way to win with 3 interceptions.......CC needs to win the coaching battle versus Mcelwain.......Defense will keep us in the game, we win if the offense joins the party, otherwise we lose........This game matters enormously

Well said, Glory!!
We have not won at CMU since 2011…..based on the way our offense is playing I’m guessing it might take us to win the TOS by a margin of 3 to have a chance.
