Pentagon to allow calculators on military entrance exam amid low recruitment
Quote:The Pentagon is going to be changing its entrance exam to qualify for the military. Amidst dropping recruitment, the Pentagon is set to allow calculators on the timed exam.

The exam has a time limit and determines academic performance as well as what jobs applicants can obtain in the military, according to sources who spoke to Military.com.

The change could help with the slump in applications by inducting those not able to usually pass the test. Much of the drop has been attributed to applicants not being able to perform well enough on the test.

One official from the Pentagon said that the measure is helping the military take a "systematic approach, which will assess the impact of calculator use." He added that going forward calculators will be used.

The United States Military has been facing lower-than-normal recruitment for the last couple of years and the number of people applying to military programs has been shrinking. Retaining members of the military has also been difficult.

This includes the branches of the Army, Navy, and Airforce, which are all expected to run short of their goals in 2023.

Some have suggested that political issues have made the military appear too left-wing, resulting in bad recruiting numbers. One such instance was when the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Public Affairs said that military members needed greater access to abortion services.

The most common problem is that those who apply are being turned away because of poor performance on the aptitude exam. Last year, to alleviate the issue of poor performance on the test, the Army started its Future Soldier Preparatory Course. The course is designed to prepare those who just missed the mark of qualifying.

Focuses of the two-track course include academic performance as well as a second track for losing body fat.

So far, according to Military.com, the Army has gotten over 9,200 students into basic training through the course with the majority taking the aptitude track and the smaller share doing the fitness course.

Lower scores on the test from the Pentagon come as the average ACT score also dropped to its lowest point, 19.8 out of 36, in 30 years.

"These declines are not simply a byproduct of the pandemic," the CEO of ACT told Military.com. "They are further evidence of longtime systemic failures that were exacerbated by the pandemic."

The military needs a complete overhaul. I have some suggestions, but they would go nowhere.

I'm not in the military, but I'd have to imagine it's probably useful to be able to do math in your head on the fly during combat.

Coordinates, range, etc.

I would argue that standardized tests don't really indicate a student's potential performance in college. That should be gauged on how well they do in their classes in their chosen major. Besides, most of the material on standardized tests are just fluff that most people will never use, unless you major in a hard math or science.

True, but most of the stuff on those tests is just fluff that you'll never use in your military career, unless your MOS requires that particular knowledge.

Well, if calculators are now allowed on the SAT I don't see why they wouldn't be allowed for military recruitment.

"People wil never use". Gets thrown out there a lot. Its simply not true. Those things help a person think critically, reason soundly, and solve problems. The things you never use are why its sn education not just training. I once knew a topgun fighter pilot that had a degree in English. Standardized tests absolutely areban indicator. Low iq people dont retain or process information as well as high iq people and standardized tests absolutely indicate people that are deficient. Look it up, the easiest college with the lowest entrance requirrments also have the lowest grad rates.

The tards screw around in school, their tard teachers pump them full of social indoctrination and give thrm good grades. We get kids that cant reason, cant think, dont understand art or beauty ot the truisms that bond us all together and end up illiterate shiteheads that scream life isnt fair, tests arent fair, im precious, adore me. Then they aggravate us all collectively constantly telling us briliant they because they have the functional education of a probate clerk and call it a law degree.

Yeah tests matter morr than a 4.0 from inner city ethnic studies high or a diploma big daddywarbucks high school and yacht club. Its s gauge of what people have learned, how well they retain it and did they have discipine to learn.

Third graders in china are learning calculus while ours are taught you can cut of your genitals.

Yeah the tests matter. Our terrible education system wants you to believe they dont.

Of course the military will need to lower its stsndards for the tards our educstion system is pumping out.

We are fricked. The dystopian future is not coming, its here. At least the supreme court killed the crippling affirmative lie that has plagued us

There's a reason the military has the aptitude test. It's to see what jobs and training you will most be suited for in the military. If you think about it, most people that join are probably just out of high school.

New Army Aptitude Test:

Pat the transvestite is given an M16 with a 30 round magazine. It is instructed to set the switch on the 3 round per pull rate of fire. Pat sees 3 radical Islamists seeking a concealed position to fire upon the American patrol. Pat gets excited and fires 4 bursts at the radicals. How many rounds does Pat have left? How many more bursts can Pat fire before it must replace the empty magazine? Does Pat know what radical Islamists will do to captured transvestites? The engagement is called a Clash. Does that mean that the enemy opened fire on Pat's position, or found that Pat's outfit was not coordinated? Does Pat know who Corporal Clinger is? Since Pat is a protected minority there are no wrong answers. The United States Army finds no correlation between protected minorities, aptitude scores, and casulalites. If Pat is wounded Pat will receive a Purple Heart. Pat must realize that the Brown Shart is not a commendation.

The recruit cannot go any further. You have hit their trigger warning max level with the first sentence.

Normal operations in a nuclear engine room requires that.

The next step is emptying out the prisons to fill their recruiting goals. Not sure how they would do on the test, though.

The Dirty Dozen becomes the Dirty Division and Generals become Wardens.

Well look on the bright side. You make them Airborne and when they jump you drop them supplies, and never pick them up. It opens space in the prisons and is a renewable source of troops. If they make to a designated pick up area they get to start a colony on the Bikini Atol.

RE: Pentagon to allow calculators on military entrance exam amid low recruitment
It's a great time to join the military. My son left for Boot Camp yesterday. Joined the Army National Guard. Did well on his ASVAB and is getting a $20,000 bonus. He has 48 hours of College credit due to going to college last year. Got tired of playing the sport he was on scholarship. He is 11 Bravo and will stay at the base until February. He hopes to be offered training after February and then will enroll back in college next Fall. Is hoping to join the ROTC once he enrolls. He will be exempt from tuition, will get GI Bill funding, plus a kicker and will get nearly $1,000/month BAH on top of his Guard pay. He said he "doesn't know why everyone doesn't do this". Will be a lot better than what his baseball scholarship paid and he doesn't have to live baseball everyday of his life.
