Memphis #18. No Houston, UC, UCF or BYU. Also no other AAC team.

No. School budget. NIL is handled by third parties.

Spending for spending sake isn’t something to brag about. Assuming these numbers are accurate (they likely aren’t), there are a few schools in the top 20 that need to reevaluate whether or not they’re getting enough bang for their buck.

Why do they need to reevaluate?

Those are stats from the US Dept. of Education. Numbers reported by each school. Apples to apples. But yeah, there could be differences in how they are reported.

As for schools not getting their bang for the buck, I would say Georgia, Vandy and for now, Georgetown.

And as usual, any time I post a list, fans of schools not on it figure out how to tear it down, lol.

I’m not tearing down the list. I only questioned the numbers because I did a separate search and saw different values. For instance once site showed UConn as having only a 7.5 million dollar budget as opposed to a 24 million dollar one. My bigger point though was that for several of these schools their spending isn’t translating to on court success. The question they should probably be an asking themselves is why are they spending millions more than a school like Houston and only having a fraction of the success. Like if I’m a Georgetown booster I’m not taking any pride in seeing the Hoyas on this list. If anything I’d be embarrassed that they spent 14.2 million dollars to win 2 conference games and 7 games total this year.

Interesting on the conference average spending. For the time period of this data, the AAC spent on average twice what C-USA spent and more than twice the Sunbelt. The MWC gets the most bang for the buck if it is measured by NCAA tourney selections.

This makes me wonder what the CUSA6 spent and what they plan to spend in their first year in the American.

Maybe some of the schools not on the list should be audited.

All of WSU's budget is tied up in former coaches buyouts ...

That was the real point of the list, IMO.

And no way UConn is only spending $7M on basketball. Their overall athletic budget is reported north of $70M. You think that's all going to football? Or WBB?

I'm sure UNT, UAB, and FAU will increase their budgets with their recent success. That being said, they're clearly doing alright without pouring a massive amount of money into the program

And that is exactly what any team in this conference should NOT be doing.

I’ve got no idea. Just saying other sites show drastically different totals for some schools. I did see a comment on the tweet you shared from a UConn fan claiming that 11 million of the 24 million they supposedly spend is going to Kevin Ollie. Lol so maybe that’s a piece of it.

One school in surprised not to see was TCU because for the last few years I’ve always seen them leading the Big 12 in spending. Which I’ve always thought was absurd given how mediocre they’ve been as a program. Though to their credit they’ve finally put together a couple decent seasons so maybe they’re crazy spending has finally paid off.

I would think it makes more sense to audit the schools on the list. Georgetown is almost certainly misappropriating that money lol

UAB's budget is increasing across the board. Don't have hard numbers. Just what we were told.
