Mid Majors Season
FAU and San Diego State are in the Final 4. My prediction is FAU to win it all. They have been the most impressive of every team in the tournament to me. Hope Coach Burno and company are paying close attention. The powerhouses aren’t that powerful anymore. Strike while the iron is hot!

Interesting final 4 to be sure. Only 1 Power 5 team. College basketball sure is different than it was 15 years ago.

RE: Mid Majors Season
Main reason college basketball playoffs are so much more interesting than college football's silly four-team system.

College basketball has more parity and any team has a chance. In today's CFB "playoff" no one outside the P5s has a chance so it has allowed the SEC and Big10 to accumulate most of the wealth and best recruits.

The NCAA is working on changing the rules so that this never happens again, as we speak

Probably, but on the other hand, the Cinderella team draws huge ratings. But the NCAA will stay true to itself and work for the Blue bloods like they have been doing since its inception.

This year, its guaranteed there will be a championship game involving 1 major conference team and 1 mid-major team.

Which is maybe an anomaly but also highlights the lack of a true top team all season. There were a lot of really good teams but no team that truly stood out from the pack.

Honestly, this is probably a result of the open-ness of the portal, the extra covid year and NIL. It may be an unintended consequence but one that, if not reigned in by the NCAA, will probably continue. I'm not sure we'll see super teams like the NBA since it's not really a level playing field and teams can't make mid-season additions.

Don't confuse football with basketball.

It still isn’t a power 5 conference and hasn’t been since the ACC raided the football schools.

Except it does. Interesting debate on weather football could be detrimental to schools that have both, especially with NIL deals going forward. Boosters wanting to spend spend spend on football might no longer “pay” for 5 star basketball players.

I agree, but I want to see how they navigate this issue vs the transfer portal, which I feel is what has given us this year's final four.

Yup. Nigel pack just happen to transfer to Miami from KSU and got a 600k plus deal from their NIL sugar daddy who has vowed to spend 10 million a year alone on all UM sports.

And to put NIU in same breath as FAU, pay attention? Not going to happened any time soon unless NIU doubles in size, and moves to a warm climate near an ocean.

Yeah, they make the rules for UNC, Kansas Duke to be good every year. Sure.

And the portal game can have consequences for the elite programs. On one hand, some obviously leave liek Shannon and Mayer on UI. They left a champion and runner up. But they got an non-cohesive bunch nowhere at UI who at the same time lost Wisconsin mr basketball who is going pro this year at UCSB I think. And I don't think these schools want to bring players in. Why you see coaches quitting. You recruit 4-5 start players and look to replace them with a 3 star playing well or a freshman/soph moves up?

I think it's broadly good for the game but bad for fans of perennial powers and even those not from P5. You grow with players, team as fans. Seeing a guy for one year and moving on or graduating really can alienate fan identity. Sad when players last longer on NBA teams than in college programs.

I'd even say 4/2019.

Eleven different conferences represented in the sweet 16. Only SEC, B12, and, Big East having more than 1 team in SW16.
