RE: ODU vs MARSHALL
I was at the game too. Crowd seemed to be more into the game tonight, which was very nice.
The two things that impressed me was, after having 10 turnovers in a messy first half, only 3 in the second half. Really helped in our come back charge. Second, even with their very tall line up, we out rebounded them 48 to 35. Wtf? We really out hustled them. Very impressive by our guys.
Go Monarchs!!!

-We absolutely dominated them inside the paint and had tons of offensive rebounds. We were simply tougher. The big goof had a couple blocks, but we kept going at him. I thought Williams had some really good rebounds.
I don’t believe you. We’re small and they had multiple 7 footers. We couldn’t have scored more points in the paint or rebounded better than they did.
The 2nd 7 footer played 45 seconds and turned the ball over the only time he touched the ball I believe :)
Height doesn't equal toughness. We dominated them inside. I can't remember the points in the paint stat but it was ugly. 48 to 35 on the boards.

Either that’s a three man team, or that Taylor kid is a way bigger ball hog than Elmore ever was.

Im not gonna lie, the sshhhhh grew on me. We were having fun with it.
And then we missed a free throw right after blaring Sweet Caroline. The old lady by me was made we didn't do the sshh thing.
And I have no idea how the Chaunce layup was not an And1.

Taylor is really good though. But, Im not sure they have a ton of options other than Taylor and Kinsey so those 2 have to score. The other hope is the 40 year old YMCA guy gets open for 3s.

Who’s idea was it to play Sweet Caroline when we are shooting free throws? Horrible timing.

It was coming back from a break I think, but I think they should have cut it off sooner.

RE: ODU vs MARSHALL
What a great game and win tonight. I said this about USM the other night and tonight for Marshall. Those teams look and are really good. ODU played really well to win one, much less both.
To me, the defense has looked awesome, rebounding very good, and more times than not, offense solid. Looks like guys have figured out that good things happen when you drive to the basket.
Very happy for the players, coaches, and especially the fans. Congrats to Jeff for win 200 at ODU.
Let's keep it going in the tourney. But either way, proud of our team, the heart they showed when things got tough, and the grit with which they played to finish out the season. Many of you have said this already and I completely agree, it is easy to cheer for this team.
Go Monarchs!

FWIW, JJ really outcoached D’Antoni. Our game plan was good on both ends.

Taylor’s a good player, but was really inefficient tonight. He didn’t have it going, but he kept jacking them up.

And that's on the coach because he never told him to try to pass it up and get others involved.

I think we handled their press very well and at least a few times got easy buckets out of it. I understand why they pressed at the end but they did it throughout the game even though it wasn’t working for them?

I thought we really make Taylor and Kinsey work hard to take tough shots.

I don't like the shsss as I said the other night. An earlier post covered very well my reasoning too. It was interesting to me at the end when Imo went to the line, an O D U chant was happening and Imo made the 1st. We got shsssed and he missed the second.
I like pretty much everything else that comes with this DJ though.
It was a ton of fun being at those last two games.

Did I just miss it or did the Marshall coaching staff not shake hands with the ODU staff before the game? Didn't I see them walk across the court instead of in front of the ODU bench? Just curious about that and could have missed it.

You missed it. But their HC barely shook JJs and continued on without a word or eye contact.

Can’t blame him for being upset. We just likely cost them an NIT bid. I still like Marshall to win the tourney, but JMU has the easiest path I think.

Yes he did. For fun check out what the Marshall fans are saying on their Message Board about D'Antoni and for that matter Coach Jones.

Agree with the sentiment that next year could be fun if the transfer portal is not loaded with Monarchs.
Great week of ODU basketball!
This is the key. If we can somehow limit outgoing transfers, this team could be good next year. Otherwise, it's same old story. You can see with this squad it just took too long for them to figure it out, and we can't keep reloading the roster every year and starting at square one.
Here's hoping for a sea change with us and transfers.
