Looks to me like it's broken. Could be wrong. Would be happy to be wrong. Speaking of broken, our offense is broken. And that is the problem with Thomas. We dribble the ball around at the top of the key and aren't getting him clean looks. I thought tonight he was at least not trying to force bad shots and appeared to accept a lesser role because of the stickiness of the ball. VCD has to quit shooting 3's. I want to see more midrange from Sin and Malique and quicker rotations of the ball as opposed to attempting to dribble around the defense. But alas, I am not the coach.

I agree. Last time I checked, Curly Neal never scored a point in a game that mattered. I have not understood our offense all season. It’s Carry (or Jacobs) dribbling for 20 seconds then a near panic to get a shot up. I don’t see the ball movement and player movement necessary to get good shots. Very frustrating…

Gotcha. I didn't see the finger right away just saw they had it splinted up and taped after the trainer got to him. My hope is it was a clean dislocation. I've seen a couple guys I know sustain pretty gross dislocations in games that turned out to not be broken.

My concern is why are we not getting up for Akron? This looked exactly like the championship game last year. We absolutely played flat.

As others have noted, Akron has been playing the better basketball for almost a month, so I'm not surprised the Flashes lost at Akron. This Kent State team is not good enough offensively to shoot well enough or score enough against a team that plays well defensively, as does Akron. I know there is lots of time left and that adjustments can be made but I don't see it as likely that they win either the regular season or MAC tournament. I hope I'm wrong and I often am, but that's just the way it looks to me.

I AGREE W/THE RAT .. THIS IS THE ANSWER AS I SEE IT .... When Kent is playing high-level intense defense, as it did the second half of last season and the first half of this season, the offense is juuuuuust good enough to win.

But that high level of defense is hard to sustain for 30 straight games and it started to show even a few weeks ago. Payton gave the team an offensive spark for a few games .... Thomas for some games... Sullinger lately ... but Jacobs and Carry have not been top shelf all season for more than a game here or there.

Summation --- This was coming.

With about 10 games left the challenge will be to first try and get that defense (which is still good) back up a bit more to help out the offense, then hopefully get some positive offensive consistency out of Payton, Thomas, Carry and Jacobs down the stretch. If that happens, we'll see what goes down in Cleveland.

Re: the defense ... any time Kent holds a team below 70 points, that's a game the Flashes should win. So the defense is still good.

On a final note ... the joker claiming 'it's the coach" has no clue. This team won 18 games by the end of January with the same coach.

I'm going to agree with you on this one. I just listened to the press conference. I wanted him to just say it was the exact same game as a championship last year. Even without Santiago we just looked blank.
This did not look like a team that was geared up the play of their rival. Akron was. Akron was still angry. Akron was still fighting. Akron's defense was not that great. Our ball handling and sloppy passes, dribbling, missed free throws were.
Also, our athletic department has got to come up with some way to get people in the stands in march. I don't care who they have to give passes to. We need a place is just amped up and energetic as The jug was last night.

Things are never as bad as they seem after a big loss, nor as good as they seem after a big win. But in conference games Akron is ahead of Kent State in most statistics, but not by any huge margins. Lots of games to play yet and Akron has to come to the MAC, but the Flashes have got to figure out a way to shoot a better percentage and score more points. This is the point where the coaching staff really has to earn their pay. The only other way would be to ramp up the defense even more so that they just shut the opponents down. I really have no suggestions as to how to do either, but I would guess the coaches have some ideas and are working on that right now.

One thing - Carry and Jacobs are the two best defenders, and Carry played 40 minutes and Jacobs 38. Would a little more rest, say play 35 minutes a game help? I don't know. Just a thought.

Other than sully our 3 pt % is poor so I’d like us to:
- get carry to penetrate into key area for mid ranges, kick to bigs or kick out to Thomas or sully.
- also I’d mix in malique going point forward like they used to do back in the day with chris singletary. He’s not aa strong or thick but lots of similarities.
- there is a reason Jacob’s and vcd are open outside. I’d also guess opposing coaches would rather let sincere shoot from out there vs in the key.
