Arrived right after the women's game ended and parking lot was packed. There were fans streaming into the building and there was a buzz in the air. Then we laid an egg.

We were horrible protecting the rim and got dunked on at least 5 times in the first half.

On the other hand, we had players dive on the floor for loose balls several times including Emoni. He hit the deck hard twice, and you could see his head bounce off the floor, hope he is OK.

It was nice to get a chance to cheer for the football team at halftime.

I looked for the baked potato bar but couldn't find anything so I settled for a pizza slice, then I left about the 18:00 mark of the second half to watch some NFL playoffs.......

Try we haven't defended well inside the arc the entire season. But look at NIU shooting percentages vs ours. We allow the open 3s all season longas well.

We hired Heath because he had proven D1 experience as well as pro compared to other candidates. He has recruited well. But here's my prediction Heath will resign at the end of this season. He doesn't seem happy here. No one applauds him when his name is announced. His players have zero energy. Good back and watch the NIU coach players and team see how engaged they are and then look at us. This isn't what Stan expected when he returned home to EMU. He will move on on his own accord.

Stan has a good contract with incredibly dim prospects for a better job. I hope you are right, but I don't see it happening.

I think you are a little too excusing of Coach Heath here. A lot of this is his doing. Of course, I am not going to lump on him either. He loves EMU and he is probably just as disappointed and frustrated as his players and us fans.

Coach Heath received plenty of well deserved fan fare when he arrived. And I am sure most of us would have been patient with slow development in year two. But whatever this is is not development. It is an epic failure given the circumstances. He may in fact resign out of love for the university and respect for his own record.

Or he may want to give next year another go by reconsidering if not overhauling his schemes. Either way, I can only imagine he is dying on the inside waiting for this season to end.

In retrospect we should have hired Dwayne Stephens. Too late now.

1) The eye test told them that EMU is Not very athletic.
2) EMU players look small compared to NIU.
3) They don’t run any plays for their shooters.
4) Why do EMU BIGs contest the outside shots from the 5 spot and then get beaten off dribble if the guy puts it on the floor??
5) forgot to add that they will NOT be coming back.

My comments:

1) Evaluating our recruiting class this year, they can not play at this level except for Bates and Acuff.
2) Heath lets Bates do anything but coach him - ultimately this has led to hurting the team and it hurts Emoni. I don’t see how Emoni could get drafted this year. He’s got a lot of growth that needs to be made.
3) It was interesting hearing my friends perspective that EMU is not very athletic. They are right - we have Farrakhan, Acuff, Jihad and Golson and that’s it. I won’t add names here but there are many recruiting mistakes made by Heath.
4) when you’re not athletic, it’s even more crucial to play fundamental basketball but we don’t and it compounds the disparity in our inferior talent.

Like Ramy, I have lost interest in the program and I believe Heath is in an unrecoverable position .

Luckey, I always value your basketball insights even if we have differing perspectives on some points. But I even more value your commitment to EMU and the basketball program! You are always trying to bring in new fans. Thank you!! (Sorry it was for nought in this case).

I would add Lovejoy to your list of athletic players. Not sure why his minutes were so limited today.

Ramy, EMU is a gold mine. I could only imagine how far Braun could have taken EMU if he had this facility even if it’s off campus (not best scenario). EMU is nestled within 100,000s of potential paying customers but ever since Braun left our basketball has been in shambles. Losers will tell you that EMU fan attendance is due to blah blah blah. I live close to Ypsilanti and there are so many paying customers yearning for a team to embrace. It’s really disheartening to see it in shambles. If we could play exciting basketball and be competitive in the MAC, EMU could average 3000-5000 fans but the basketball is just so bad!!!

Guys are getting demolished by screens, and no one is helping when someone rolls to the basket. Layup after layup. The difference between us and NIU defensively was night and day, and they were 6-12 coming into this game.

For all of Murphy’s faults, at least we looked like we wanted to stop our opponent from scoring when he was in charge. I don’t see any light at the end of the tunnel either. The offense doesn’t matter when you give up 80+ every night. NIU was shooting over 70% from the field for most of the game. That should be unacceptable to everyone on the court and on the bench. But it’ll probably happen again in our next game.

So disappointing. I love EMU basketball so much, but it’s hard to keep paying attention when it’s like this.

I reluctantly agree 100%.

Everybody talks about the double-teams Bates contends with. Honestly, I don't see them, smaller and quicker guards shut his jump-shooting game down just fine on their own. There are no designed plays and screens to get the kid his coveted jump shot or any effort to post him up inside where he could make that smaller defender pay. He is a 6'10" player playing like a 6'3'' with little speed and gets exploited often defensively. EMU plays better without him and that is on Stan.

Our backcourt has talent. Acuff, Noah and Emoni have a lot going on, but it takes Emoni to sit on the bench for Noah to get going? Stan, please design something to exploit the talent you have.

Our frontcourt reflects our grad assistant, Nick Madray, no offense to Nick. Geeter, Billingsley, Jihad, Randle and Golson all play to the level that Nick did. He was a role player and certainly not a starter in the MAC. NOBODY here is very good, a recruiting deficiency for sure.

Most importantly this team simply does not hustle. Murphy's teams always showed up, Stan's....

Just a few notes here. Every major program passed on Bates and honestly I think EMU was his only option. He was out with several spills yesterday, Lovejoy left because of any eye injury, I don't what happen to Getter. The two teams were essentially even in every category except shooting and that includes FT which NIU executed. Frankly Bates doesn't have a NBA body right now to last an entire NBA season. He needs to hit the weight room but one wonders if he has the desire and is inclined to do so. Noah took a spill too. Hopefully all of them are all right. I like Carl's idea to play Bates at center vs guard. Murphy's teams underachieved and yes guys like Drama King Raven/Ray Lee dogged it and seemed disinterested at times. They certainly underachieved many times their talent levels. As the Who once said "Meet the New Boss, same as the Old Boss.". We are still underachieving our talent levels in men's basketball.

Obviously Murphy’s teams underachieved, but they always defended well and (most of them) played hard. Or Murphy would take them out of the game. I don’t see that type of accountability with this team. It’s mostly on Heath, but I couldn’t imagine being a player and watching my opponent consistently beat me back door for a layup or dunk. It doesn’t matter how athletic or how big you are, you should at least be able to get in someone’s way, or foul them and make them earn it.

NIU shut us down around the basket, while we were a turnstile. I won’t name names, but there were several occasions where two of our front court players stayed with the same man while the guy with the ball waltzed in for an easy dunk. There is zero communication defensively, and that is a hallmark of apathetic coaching. Watch any good defensive team, and you see that they never shut up. This team looks like they’re just ready to get back on offense, even if that means easy buckets for the other team. Embarrassing.

I still contest that Murphy would have a middling record with this group, and that says a ton about the job (or lack thereof) that Heath is doing. These players aren’t bad…they just don’t seem to care enough. I hope Heath can find a way to fix that, but I have no idea how he turns this mess around.

I will note that we played a press defense yesterday. NIU had little or no problem beating it.

Off topic but I showed and stayed for the halftime ceremony only.

Creighton was splendid. He extolled all of this year's team accomplishments and trophies. Then he said the team missed one of their pre-season goals, the MAC championship trophy! He promised next year's team would work to get there, it was inspiring to me. A much better presentation than I expected. [/i]

Thanks for sharing, Jerry!

Creighton was truly inspiring! My highlight for the day is that Coach Creighton came over and shook my hand!

We Must Get This Basketball Program Going!!

I didn't expect less and he showed real class as usual congratulating the ladies on their win and encouraging the men's team. The team was engaged in the goals for next year and you could see the spark because well winning is fun and its fun when you all work hard together. Yes really excited about next year!

Yes it is very easy to win and difficult to lose. I feel for Heath. He probably didn't need this job and what he walked into. It is his alma mater with a beautiful arena, West athletic Campus, very nice campus, etc.

Rebuilding teams are like rebuilding a house that has been in a fire or a hurricane. It may be difficult but the ending may be good or it may be problematic. No one knows until one gets deep inside.

ANY EMU fan knows that MOST rebuilds are not successful. How many unsuccessful rebuilds did FB have before C.C.?

Not to take anything away from C.C. but he was given more to work with than any previous EMU FB coach. We were slow to get an IPF. We were slow to get a SAPC.

I still don't know how teams in the Midwest, esp. upper Midwest, have spring ball without an IPF. Who wants an outdoor practice if it is is 25 degrees and snowing, with a swirling wind?

Creighton was splendid. He extolled all of this year's team accomplishments and trophies. Then he said the team missed one of their pre-season goals, the MAC championship trophy! He promised next year's team would work to get there, it was inspiring to me. A much better presentation than I expected. [/i]

Heath would be a perfect for a pro assistant or G league. And yes I do feel for Heath and his wife both EMU alums. Every home games when his name is announced it's dead silence. That can't feel good.

As Carl noted the Detroit Drive job is open. Heath would beca perfect fit. And yes I do feel for Heath and his wife both EMU alums. Every home games when his name is announced it's dead silence. That can't feel good.

Would someone explain what Carl posted. Rob is still with the MC Cruise and Pistons.

Was this one of those sloppy posts where someone posts something about something which was in the news but it got garbled...

I read a will ago that Rob was temporary put on leave or whatever. Someone told me that it wasn't serious, like a job ender.

Everything I can tell he is back working, etc. Like he is listed on the official Cruise website.

I just heard that there was an opening. Why is that so confusing? Not as confusing as (I read will ago).03-lmfao

What's the opening? Murphy's job? An admin job? Coaching job? Custodian?

I thought I heard that Ms. Brown (forgot her 1st name, Brittany???) left the Pistons a while back but what does that mean???

Steve I have edited my post. Thank you. I will be more careful in the future.
