The lack of sales. It wasn't making money. 07-coffee3

I so HATE that coffee emoji, it has become the universal signal for an idiotic and seemingly sanctimonious comment. Maybe that is just me.

If profitability was our sole objective here, why in the world would we even have a basketball program? Financially it is huge loser! Get rid of it. Simple yet stupid.

Now on to a more reasoned viewpoint. EMU knew crowds would be bigger this year due to the Bates signing and the resulting increase in season ticket sales. One might expect they would attempt to capitalize on such with increased concessions and yes,
merchandise sales. The EMU world changed when Emoni Bates signed, the Gervin Arena, however, did not. I'm with Lucky on this one.

Nailed it Jerry. Eastern has new faces in the stands brought on by having Bates fall in to our lap. Yesterday, I saw a lot of young fans in attendance, and Eastern has the opportunity to get these fans to come back. We all agree that the product on the court is why we go to games, however, the overall game experience increases the odds these fans return.

I see an apparel table set up at football games and this must be duplicated as a minimum for basketball games. I mean this is low hanging fruit! UOfToledo has a nice store in their building. We’re talking fandom fundamentals here this needs to be done for Bowling Green!

We have done this in the past for MBB and it didn't apparently financially work.

Financially work - are you joking? Locking the stock up in numerous rooms in the arena and having a college athlete host the stand doesn’t could be run barely above cost. Come on not much overhead

Steve, Luckey and I do attend games and despite what you may have heard, the crowds are significantly larger than in the past. Using only past results, therefore, is misguided from a business perspective. Sports apparel is a growing business. Rally House, a retailer devoted to such, just expanded to Arborland Shopping Center, eight minutes from the Gervin. Personally, I think having an apparel store in the Gervin is an absolute minimum requirement for any D1 program. That is just me.

The only question is does a vendor could be a private individual or say Barnes and Nobles EMU book store wish to do it. It is NOT something that the athletic department does. For the bookstore I'd think it is 'more trouble than its worth.'

By all means, EMU fans BUY your gear.

Yes there is Rally House. I have some of their shirts and a shirt and jacket from the bookstore.

RE: Men's Basketball
When Bates signed I did a post on the opportunity EMU to capitalize and reach many new fans who wouldn't normally attend EMU games. I mentioned half time entertainment primos concessions staffing and security. I said EMU was a Cinderella who could made a splash But apparently Cinderella decided to wear used Converse than Gucci. Unless Bates comes back for another year I would be surprised if season ticket sales remain at this year's level.

Thanks for reminding me of your text, I do recall it. Very prescient indeed. A missed opportunity to be sure.

Your incredibly sub-intelligent advice is noted! Your posts are so freaking ridiculous, it has become comedic. I deeply respected your allegiance to EMU, but thanks to your imperial attitude and nonsensical posts, you have become a "board idiot".

I will indeed heed your advice and ignore you.

Come on, guys! Let’s keep it mutually respectful.

Super, no one knows what your coffee emoji actually means, but they deem it as condescending- as your comments can imply as well (like a “no duh” from back in the eighties. And dare I say, there are occassions when you are just plain wrong). That is my interpretation anyway. Why not share information with us without all the condescending sarcasm- we would value it.

Jerry, I get where you are coming from, but you have to admit that “board idiot” is a bit over the top.

Let’s just talk EMU basketball (positive or negative) in a meaningful way. Concessions are a definite issue- we can absolutely discuss. Personally, my bigger problem is the lack of winning. In any case… Go EMU!!
