Coombs rejoined the Bearcats in February 2022 following a two-year stint as Ohio State's defensive coordinator from 2020 to 2021.

Tasked with replacing a pair of All-American cornerbacks and NFL draft picks at both cornerback spots, Coombs developed first-year starter Ja'Quan Sheppard into an All-AAC First Team selection and moved nickel back Arquon Bush to cornerback where he also earned all-conference honors.

Coombs also oversaw one of the nation's top special teams units. Sophomore Mason Fletcher proved to be one of the nation's top punters. He was named a finalist for the prestigious Ray Guy Award and collected All-AAC Special Teams Player of the Year accolades.

Additionally, UC ranked second nationally in net punting (44.69), 14th in kick return defense (16.9), No. 17 in punt return defense (3.5) and No. 21 in punt return average (11.4).

UCF makes sense as he is from Florida. Maryland makes no sense to me at all.

I’d like to think JQ Hardaway might stay with Kerry’s track record of developing corners and would be up to start next year after barely getting beat out by Sheppard. I think most of his big offers were to play safety and he wanted to be a corner so came here IIRC.

Why would you think that? The statistics are really unambiguous: once a kid has announced that they are leaving, over 90% of them do. I wouldn't waste another minute pondering whether or not Sheppard or any of the other (former) Bearcats who have announced that they're out of here might "consider staying."

Yeah, he's in Wisconsin as the new TE's coach. My guess is he is going to be looking for jobs as a HC, OC or QB coach elsewhere next year. This is a holdover until he can get into a better situation.

He has already been a finalist at WMU and Kent State in the last month, it's only a matter of time IMO. He's probably the next man up in a few years, one way or another.

Some MAC program will take a flier on him at some point.

I'd love to see him trying to coach TEs to block.
