Hawaii Bowl: Middle Tennessee vs. San Diego State
This is my shocked face. In the latest episode of the University president doesn't give a **** about the fanbase - just his own personal boondoggles - consider the following:
The last nine times MT has been bowl eligible:

McPhee thanks everyone for their tax dollars.
At least he won't have his large Bahamian entourage eating at the tax-dollar teat on this trip.
King Seven-Wood held up our coaches and players from getting off the plane for a long time in the Bahamas last year, waiting for his entourage & cameramen to show up for his photo-op.

Being positive: 7-5, drilling Miami, a hard-playing D, & not facing another MAC bowl team is not so bad. SDSU is a tough out, and I don’t recall ever playing them off the top of my head. I am watching at home with a single malt & a charcuterie board, so looking forward to it.
Also, Reed Blankenship is killing it as a rookie with the Eagles, and MT men’s basketball has some talent & heart.

Glad they are getting to take on a MWC squad team in a bowl rather than another MAC or Sun Belt squad and for TV, MT will be in the only college Bowl game on Christmas Eve! But for Middle fans who would desire to attend a Bowl Game; it's kind of a Bummer.
Hope we fare better against San Diego State that we did when we went out there and got boat raced by the Rainbow Warriors!

So Massaro and McPhee are so disappointed that they are gonna stay home in protest? Bet they put on their Hawaiian Shirts 30 minutes before the selection was even announced!

Yeah, I find it hard to believe that we had "zero" say-so on the matter, especially after saving C-USA's bacon.

Do you guys believe there were other options or offer out there for a bowl and they opted for HI for selfish reasons?

I think there was a combination. Pressure by ESPN, who wanted two 7-5 teams. And Judy/MT not wanting to piss off ESPN since we signed new contract recently.
Thing is, we have been out of the continental USA 4 times in our last 5 bowls.
And I think the Prez loves to piss off the fanbase, to show that he is the grand poobah. His way or the highway. This guy lives lavishly on the taxpayer dime, and he's been here over 20 freakin' years, while the area around the U has become crime-ridden. Our local cops cannot wait until he's gone.

I agree that is a bad situation but if due to ESPN there were no other options on the table what choice was there to make? With UAB going to the Bahamas Bowl and MT going to HI it seems that ESPN made the decisions not the University Presidents.

Remember when President Dr. James Walker (McPhee's predecessor)announced the MT move to FBS from FCS. He proclaimed "Athletics is the front porch of every successful Public University! That is our goal at Middle Tennessee!" The man was a visionary but that goal has definitely not been achieved under the current administration.

It could be. It just seems fishy. Before the season, if you would have asked our fans "if we went bowling, where would it be?" our fans would have said that McPhee wanted Hawaii. He travels all across the USA with sports teams, etc, and in the past, China frequently. China gifted the Bahamas Bowl stadium to his native country, where we've bowled twice already.
And then, almost immediately after the FIU game, I was hearing from a couple of my sources "McPhee wants to go to Hawaii."

Fanbase, what we have left, would have rioted
King Seven-Wood McPhee is apparently now even making our athletics hires, decisions, etc. He is the ultimate micromanager.
I have heard that UT-knoxville keeps him in power here.
Rumor on the street at one time was that he wanted to hire a certain guy that he had befriended as AD at MT, that ended up stealing from MT, and then subsequently fired from Florida A&M for misappropriation of funds.
I'm kind of worried to get rid of Coach Stockstill, knowing McPhee would make the next hire. Some think King McPhee enjoys keeping MT football down, to piss off former AD Boots Donnelly, whom he fired (longtime MT football coach, who found out about his firing on athletics website). Boots said he won't come back to the university until they "take out the trash".

Regarding Coach Donnelly, I recently saw an article about the 50th Anniversary Celebration of Murphy Center that states "Boots" is going to be there as one of the Honored Guests. Wonder if he really shows up? And, didn't he come back to Floyd for the unveiling of his own statue a few years ago?

He comes back for his former players' Hall of Fame inductions, as well.
He'll be back around a lot more once McPhee is gone. Hope Boots is doing well.
