Full props to the Belt for a fantastic start in football.
The league is looking to be tops in the G5 this season.

RE: IS THE SUN BELT THE TOP G5 FOOTBALL CONFERENCE THIS SEASON?
.
I wonder what the opinion will be this week?
Interestingly, the MWC has gotten fewer votes than any of the other G5 conferences in the poll. The Massey Composite currently ranks the MWC as the #3 G5 conference, halfway between the SBC and CUSA.

RE: IS THE SUN BELT THE TOP G5 FOOTBALL CONFERENCE THIS SEASON?
After week 3…SBC remains top G5 to date. Per the eye test.
Per ‘way too influenced by past years seasons’ computer polls, AAC has the nod.
And “the Mountain West is…NOT at the peak!”. We’ve fallen off and are hanging on the side of a cliff by our safety line…trying not to be overtaken by interim Cusa. At least the MAC isn’t a threat and solidly holds the bottom.
HOWEVER! Take the conference lineups to be, and the rankings are solidly - per computers, perception, on-field performance - this! (So far for this season)…
1). Funbelt Fourteen
2). AAC-14
3). MW
4). MAC
5). CUSA-9

The Sun Belt went 4-0 in OOC games this week. The AAC went 4-4 (.500), so the Sun Belt fared better from that standpoint in week 4.

Now that all is said and done (save the bowls) I'm sticking with the AAC, followed by Sun Belt, then MWC third.

I think the MC makes it clear that the AAC has been the top G5 conference.
Breaking it down, the difference is performance vs other G5. Neither did anything vs the P5 this year (AAC 3-13, SBC 2-10) but the AAC is 9-3 vs other G5, while the SBC is 9-7.

Looking back on it, who would have predicted that the AAC would have been as dominant as it has been in the rankings, at least among the G5 conferences?
Who would have predicted that Tulane would go 10-2, or that Appalachian State, Marshall, and Louisiana would only win 6 or 7 games apiece?

The SBC is actually 4-13 against the P5 (wins over Notre Dame, Texas A&M, Virginia Tech, and Nebraska). Coastal lost their shot to play Virginia following their tragedy but stood a good chance of picking up a 5th win for the league. South Alabama lost by 1 point at UCLA on a FG as time expired; if South wins that game and ended 11-1 they might find themselves competing for the NY6.
I agree with you that the SBC didn’t do well enough against peer competition. Three losses were really bad. Texas State losing to Nevada, Georgia State losing to Charlotte, and Marshall losing to Bowling Green the week after beating Notre Dame were unexpected. Here is what our OOC looks like prior to bowl games:
Power 5 Games (4-13):
-- ACC (1-6)
-- Big Ten (1-1)
-- Big 12 (0-2)
-- PAC 12 (0-1)
-- SEC (1-3)
-- Notre Dame (1-0)
Group of 5 Games (13-10)
-- AAC (1-2)
-- CUSA (4-3)
-- MAC (4-1)
-- MWC (0-1)
-- G5 Independents (4-3)

The CFP committee. I think that was the plan coming into the season, to promote the upcoming P5 inventory. Either that, or these guys are too lazy to pay attention to G5 football and just choose whoever is at the top of the AAC.

That’s actually a good thing for the fans of the teams going to the respective CCGs. It’s good to be a G5 or M3 fan.

Thanks for correcting me about the SB record vs P5.
Also thanks for mentioning prior to bowl games. We won't know the final G5 result until the bowl games have been played.

The MAC is the only G5 conference that plays its CCG at a neutral site NFL venue like all the P5 conferences.

Not that it matters but Wiki counts ND & BYU as ‘P5’ teams and gives ECU credit for a ‘P5’ win over BYU.

The leftovers from CUSA moving down didn't help. App State was 1-2, Coastal was 2-2, and ULaLaLa was 1-1 vs. the newbies.

BYU football and hoops have long been power level, contrary to what some on this board think.
