I love how people assume that Nebraska, with all their resources and fan enthusiasm, can't win anymore. Put Urban Meyer there instead of tOSU 10 years ago and Nebraska wins a title and tOSU is called a "place nobody wants to go b/c it's cold in Ohio". Nebraska might do well with Rhule, they might not, but they'll always be in the mix b/c of their resources, boosters, and enthusiastic fan engagement.

Auburn wanted Kiffin with Freeze as the backup, Wisconsin wanted to promote Leonhard, and Nebraska is a much better opportunity than ASU. Rhule would probably have sat out a year before taking the ASU job.

Wonder what is different about Ohio & Nebraska? Maybe millions of people? One of the best football recruiting states vs a tiny state? This is an extremely poor take.
Nebraska won with academically poor players with questionable character. Once that loophole closed, the success ended. Plus they played a schedule full of teams that didn't have a pulse. That helped too.

There was a time that Ohio was a really good recruiting state... but it's tied for 10th on the 2022 247 list with 5 top prospects versus 48 in leading state Florida.

Not his problem. The money will still be his. He doesn't even know how long his boss will last.
Just take that money.

It's still an uphill climb, though, for Nebraska.
Trev (to Matt): You're from the east coast, right?
Matt (to Trev): Yes.
Trev: Well we had success getting Mike Rozier and Irving Fryar from New Jersey. Can you get us the current version of those guys again since Jonathan Taylor went to f'n Wisconsin from New Jersey? I mean, no difference between Madison and Lincoln and we have more money!
Matt: I have connections.

Good programs with good coaches recruit nationally. It doesn't hurt to have a bunch of studs going to high school down the road, but it's certainly not required. It won't hold tOSU back any more than it would hold Nebraska back if they had the right coach/staff in place.

I think it's pretty fair to question if the specific set-up that allowed Nebraska to at one point achieve their elite status hasn't changed to the point that a potential elite level status is no longer possible in Lincoln.

Of course it has, but well-run athletic departments are able to adapt and use the momentum that previous success gave them. Nebraska's athletic department, and arguably university, has been poorly led for the last 20 years, and like others have said in this thread, the athletic department has factions that aren't just not on the same page, they aren't even reading the same book. I hope Rhule is successful, but it's such a hostile environment with a lot of outside meddling. It's become the Auburn of the midwest.
It is kind of interesting that Frost's dirty laundry getting aired has led to a bit of a backlash against the Osborne and Solich-era guys making it about themselves, and even some fans getting upset at Osborne himself.

Good grief. Nebraska will be fine. Nebraska wants to compete and will.
Miami (Fl), Florida State, Southern Cal, etc... have had down periods. Each spends like they want to win. Nebraska does, too.

Idk, man. The reality is that forces within the CFB landscape had changed to such a degree by the time Osborne left that what Solich was able to achieve was the new ceiling in Lincoln. But fans and admin didn't want to believe that an Osborne-level ceiling was no longer attainable. The reality is that a Pelini-level ceiling in Lincoln is likely the Cornhuskers' lot in life. And there's nothing wrong with that. That'd make them a very successful program: consistent 8-9 win regular seasons, 10-win seasons with the bowl win, 10-11 win regular seasons every handful of years, winning the B1G West about every 3-4 years.

I mean, Miami and FSU are both very similar to Nebraska: about 30 years of elite-level. And neither Miami nor FSU are "back." So there's still a question of if either of those teams will ever get back to elite status, or if their 30-year periods of elite level were just aberrations.

Well, Nebraska's probably tied with Wyoming for 48th place in recruiting rankings, and ahead of only Alaska.

Well, Nebraska's real glory years were in the Big 8, which was before the Texas schools joined the conference. And the main reason why people claimed that Nebraska's Big 10 move would be costly is because of a loss of Texas recruiting.
I'm not sure if Nebraska will ever be back, but I don't think the Big 10 move has much to do with it.
