Game is blacked out for me. Shame, you'd think it would be included in my ESPN+

Much better second half. This team will improve.

Our guys compete hard, have some skill, athleticism, and I think by the time conference play rolls around after growing together and being tested with a really good and tough OOC schedule that we will be really tough in conference.

Anders balled out … if he plays with this level of skill and confidence this year that will make a huge impact.

Definitely showed some fight in the second half. Everybody said VaTech could shoot. Well, "everybody" was right!

Learn from this game and move on.

Agreed that they showed a lot of fight tonight. They turned what could have been a soul-crushing rout into a game they can look back on and believe “if only we had this or that”, the outcome would have been different. I don’t think we beat them but once or twice if we play them one hundred times but it’s what they believe that matters.

Wright and Collier, who will be effective in the CAA, were totally neutralized tonight. Nelson showed a lot. There is some talent there but I wonder how the X’s and O’s both on offense and defense will come about. (Somewhat reminiscent of my feelings about our football team.)

It’s just me but I’m glad Milkereit’s 3 beat the buzzer. He’s been playing better recently and I think he would help the team IF he sees court time.

Tech knew who our best player is...amazing coincidence that he got 2 instant fouls and played only 4 minutes in the first half.

I’m gratified that Anders Nelson looks good. I don’t know anything about his former school academically but St. Thomas, Minn. is very good in football and basketball — and Anders played well there.

Glad the team recovered some composure and played respectably after the horrid start. Hopefully we won’t have the deer-in-the-headlights look in our next ACC game.

Team is much much improved from last year. Very encouraging performance against a very good ACC team. Let’s see what happens when we play a cellar dweller after Thanksgiving at Pitt. Collier and Rice never got a chance to get anything going because of immediate foul trouble. Only twelve turnovers. Held Mutts to only two points. This team will be highly competitive in the CAA this year.

Team has shown grit in getting blown out twice.
I’d be impressed if the team plays with grit the whole season.
There is a lot of room to improve and the CAA is watered down now but
still just not as hopeful as many

Am I off base in expecting in-game coaching adjustments?

Can anyone help me understand the offense?

What is wrong with playing with a sense of urgency and emotion?

Inquiring minds want to know

Awful start but fought hard.

Some bright spots so far this season, but what’s particularly eye-opening for me is how well we’re protecting the ball. Only 12 turnovers vs an exceptional team. That number would have been 30 last season.

How we look in this upcoming game against American will be more telling of what kind of team we have. Both Navy and VT are battle tested tough teams and quite a challenge for a new team to try to figure things out against early in the season. I have lots of questions, but it's still pretty early to draw any conclusions.

After only watching the condensed game, it gave me two thoughts...
1. Anders Nelson needs to play even more
2. VT can shoot the ball. I'm not sure even one of their 3's even touched the rim. I can't even say they weren't defended well. Many of them were.

VA Tech was only 5-16 from 3 in the second half, and we both shot 50% from 3 for the game so it evened out.....tale of two halves. In the beginning, they really couldn't miss, and we got down by a pile. I really wonder how the game would have gone if Collier was able to play more in the first half. The silver lining is that Karazinski got lots of minutes and did fine. I'm interested to see what we do against NC State and Pitt. Three ACC schools in one season is a high water mark in my memory.

Since 1980, we have played three, or more, ACC schools in one season on 5 occasions.

The 1982-83 team (20-9) played Maryland, Wake Forest and Duke, going 1-2. (Wake win)

The 1983-84 team (14-14) played FOUR ACC teams, Duke, UVA, Wake and Maryland,. going 0-4.

The 1984-85 team (16-12) played Duke, UVA and Wake, going 1-2. (UVA win)

The 1985-86 team (8-20) played Duke, Maryland and UVA, going 0-3.

The 2009-10 team (22-11) played Wake, Maryland and UNC, going 2-1, with the UNC game coming in the NIT (...and don't get me started on the injustices playing out around THAT game...) going 2-1.

It will be interesting to see how the next two matchups turn out.

RE: MBB - @ Virginia Tech Today 6pm on TV
I watched the whole game. Put me in the camp of "I saw a lot of things to be happy about". We actually outscored them in the second half. I know they had less to play for, etc - but as many others said some other Dane teams would have folded like a cheap tent.

I saw a lot of talent and positive play with two of our starters playing 20 total minutes combined (granted, Anders's performance may have been a factor in Rice's minutes). This year we know that conference play is what matters. If these games can help us learn and build, who knows.

I will say.. I love basketball, but I don't "know" basketball from an X's and O's perspective like many here. But even for me I watch our halfcourt offense and I'm... confused.. as to what the "plan" is. I have to assume if you talk to Dane he'd say they have an offense and it does xyz. But "looking" at it it feels like there's.. nothing.. I know many have commented on this. Maybe I'm spoiled from the motion offense that Tony had that is a lot more designed than other offense, but oof. That being said - we found a way to score in the second half.

I like it! Hello next desktop pic. Where is it? I think there is a Zorch's pizza in Richmond.

It is in Richmond! I saw that in Carytown.

As for the game, I didn't get to watch but caught Jay and Kris on the radio during the drive back from the Villanova game this weekend. One big positive is that our bigs held 2nd team preseason ACC Justyn Mutts (who we're all familiar with from his time at Delaware) to just 4 and 4 on the night. And that was with Collier picking up two early fouls. Karasinski did an excellent job spelling him off the bench and Ben continues to impress every game.

You were right about not missing a single free throw....except you had the wrong team. Tech went 12-12 from the line. W&M went 8-12. BTW, I know it is early but so far Collier hasn't been stellar from the line (5-10). If that continues then teams will foul him intentionally to shut him down.
