D1 losses to non D1 teams
I always like to track the D1 teams that find ways to lose to D2, NAIA, USCAA, NCCAA or D3 teams. Please only list final scores.

Lincoln Univeristy (MO) D2 defeated UMKC 59-56
Notre Dame College from Ohio D2 beat Cleveland State 72-68
Illinois-Springfield D2 beat Northern Illinois 83-77

Exhibition game. Doesn’t count

D1 doesn't normally play games that count against lower divisions. Too much at stake. A loss would be humiliating. But even in exhibitions, they play as if they count. At least until it turns into a blowout.

No. The game doesn’t count on their W/L record for this season. Louisville’s first game is tonight versus Bellarmine. It wouldn’t have counted if they won 1000-3 either.

Both statements are true.

So did NFL preseason games. How are they relevant now?

If NFL preseason games were played against college teams, and the college team won, THEN your question would be comparing apples to apples.

RE: D1 losses to non D1 teams
This thread didn't specify "Men's Basketball", so I'll include this:

https://www.victorysportsnetwork.com/Cli...hawaii.htm

Hawaii was playing with a split squad (also against UCSB) so it's not as impressive as it sounds.

It is D1 exhibition season, so I am posting results daily, here:

https://www.victorysportsnetwork.com/Cli.../page1.htm

Mostly men's basketball, some women, and a handful of others like this men's volleyball game. There's a bunch in the queue that will go online over the next couple of days. There likely won't be very many D1 losses, because the DO play as if they are meaningful games, and it would be embarrassing to lose to an NAIA even in an exhibition.

Did Louisville play their B team the whole game? (Serious question, I don't know).

RE: D1 losses to non D1 teams
LOL and I think you suppose that I am thinking the result of one game means (in this instance) Lenoir-Rhyne is BETTER than Louisville. It doesn't mean that. It means LR found a way to beat Louisville on that given day, maybe by taking them by surprise. But it does say a hell of a lot about how good LR is going to be at their level this year, or that Louisville can be caught sleeping, and may not have much to look forward to this year.

Louisville head coach seems to think it matters:
""We needed this," Louisville head coach Kenny Payne said. "We have to get healed. We have to not be delusional about who we are. We have to know that every player that has a jersey on, whether it's practice, whether it's a workout, whether it's a game, you have to bring your best. You have to fight for your life, not just for you but for everybody else in the room. We're not the most talented team in the world, we're not. We just made that evident by losing to a Division II school, what a great lesson. I wish it didn't happen but I sort of needed it to happen because, at the end of the day, I'm going to say this, I'm trying to establish a culture and that culture is going to have some adversity in it, how do you handle it? Right out the gate, we're going to see who we are."

I hadn’t seen that actually-so many exhibition game scores don’t get reported thru the online scoreboards. Even if it isn’t official I suppose, it’s still interesting. It’s a big deal for LR for sure.

Speaking of D2 teams beating D1 teams.

If NFL preseason games were played against college teams, and the college team won, THEN your question would be comparing apples to apples.

It's more like if you challenged someone to a pickup game, lost the game, cried about it not counting because it wasn't an official game, and yelled how you're still better than the person who just beat you.

You still lost. So yes, Lenoir-Rhyne beating Louisville happened, and the suggestion that it didn't is a ridiculous statement rooted in elitism ("I'm better than you, no matter what").

Also, Louisville reports it on their official site, so it counts to them: https://gocards.com/sports/mens-basketba...le/2022-23

It does not count. It won’t be in their record and the coach won’t have that game in their official record. It’s not about elitism, it’s an exhibition game. The people on here talking about it counting, have obvious bias towards power programs. That game doesn’t count towards any Louisville record.

They still lost to D2 Lenoir-Rhyne. If they don't want people bringing that up, either beat them or don't schedule them.
