RE: Jeff Scott has been fired
Good move by USF. I've always felt if the coach is good you will be able to tell by year 3. 1 FBS win in 3 years is garbage. USF is located in a great area for recruiting, no reason they shouldn't be competitive. That being said outside of Leavitt it seems every coach they have had has struggled. I feel they need to go with an experienced coach who can create an identity for them. Similar to what Tulane did with Fritz and ECU with Houston. I'm telling you, I don't know why he hasn't been poached yet but Jamey Chadwell at Coastal Carolina has been pretty darn good. Not sure if USF could land him (he might hold out for a big offer) but he would be on my short list.

RE: Jeff Scott has been fired
Way overdue.

Randy Shannon would be a good hire for USF. FSU has a Top 25 defense with him at DC. He’s the most experienced coach in Florida with stints at UM, UF, UCF, and FSU. He only needs USF, FAU, and FIU to complete his FL Bingo card. He knows the state inside and out and has good relationships with the majority of the high school coaches. He’s gained a lot more experience and it’s time for him to be a HC again.

Willie Taggart returning would be interesting too. At the very least you disrupt FAU before they join the conference. Taggart might have a new appreciation for USF after chasing the money from Oregon and FSU. I’d but curious to see what he could do with more resources.

Coach Prime isn’t going to USF. USF is too academic to hire him and Coach Prime is looking for a culture fit that the demographic of Tampa and USF don’t fit.

Leavitt returning would be a mistake. He left in disgrace and is retired.

Randy Shannon would be a damn good hire. Obviously, Deion if you can get him would be massive.

Cignetti would be ok. Helton might be too big of a risk, can he achieve his USC results at a G5? I think USF should have higher aspirations than Wommack.

Scott was due to make 2 million a year. Bump that up to 2.5 mil and see who you can attract.

No to Herman, let him go to Rice. No to Frost, let him rot in CUSA. No to rising assistants, need someone proven at building a program.

Sleeper pick? Urban Meyer 03-nutkick

The first thing that came to my mind as well.

Cant tell if you guys are serious or not... 1 FBS win in 3 seasons? EVERYTHING is trending down... Guy is so clearly out of his comfort zone and unprepared for this job...

If there had been any improvement whatsoever... anything at all, I might be willing to go another year... But it's just that bad. A bottom 10 FBS team just hung 50+ points on us... Had to go.

My big fear now is that this is essentially round FIVE.

Holtz, Taggart, Strong, Scott... now ??

We can't take another 3 year cycle of sucking, being patient waiting for the next guy to 'recruit and rebuild'. We need to hire a GD winner...

I should have clarified. The first thing that came to my mind was Brian Gregory having a job...

Jim Leavitt would be the weirdest reversal ever.

[Image: 6a00d83451b05569e20120a6c218d5970b-800wi.jpg]

#1 He was fired from USF for being abusive
#2 He has Twitter beef with McMurphy because Leavitt allegedly threatened McMurphy
#3 He’s retired and there is 0 demand for Leavitt (Lane Kiffin and Sonny Dykes both dumped him after a single season)

1-26............Dayum! Makes Will Healy's record look like Bear Bryant.

This isn't a mercy "kill". Your admin watched this situation "suffer" to death.

Here's a list of names. Chadwell is such a no-brainer. They should call him and do whatever it takes to get him, but I don't see any reason he'd leave Coastal for USF.

What about Jeff Monken?

I don't think that Chadwell is a good fit for USF and in all honesty, I am not sure who would be. Their fanbase is apathetic and I am not so sure that the administration is "all in" when it comes to football.

That's why I think they need an experienced HC. Clay Helton is from the southeast and has experience coaching at a large urban school. Cignetti is just a damn good coach who has worked with the best and has proven to be a fantastic coach who can build programs from the ground-up.

They would both be at the top of my list.

Another name to consider is Todd Monken, OC at GA. He has experience in massive rebuilds and also proved to be a great coach. USF could be right up his alley.

Well Chadwell makes like 900k. If USF throws 2.5/3 mil at him.....would be awfully tempting. The bar is damn low and you got the state of Florida to recruit.

If I were USF, I'd make the effort. He'd be my 1st target. I just think he can afford to wait on a better job. Jumping at the first big pay increase isn't always the smart thing.

He should be the top of their list. Like I said earlier, I'm surprised he is still at Coastal. He has won at multiple stops and has shown he can build a program. I do think it might be hard to get him, but USF does have money and a very fertile recruiting ground to throw at him, plus the new facilities they are building. I do like Cignetti as well. I actually thought Cignetti was a perfect fit for Temple last year because he had worked there before and had experience in that recruiting footprint. But he knows how to work the transfer portal as you can see he's done with JMU this year and that's something that could benefit USF as they look to rebuild.

Temple, with the disastrous Rod Carey as HC, was 2-1 vs USF during Scotts tenure.

Every smart attorney for a current HC or top Coordinator will use any and all openings to help booster their client's current pay at their current school.

While some will jump to nee opportunities, others will stay bit only AFTER their current school offers them a new deal.

Negotiations 101.
