RE: If UTA ever added FB... The FCS level is the only sensible choice.
Went to see if our schedule went back far enough and yes it does.
It was August 26, 2004, and it was New Mexico Highlands. We won 35-7. Can’t find game stats.
We also played Sam Houston in 2004 and lost 44-14.

And what happened the previous year in Huntsville?

Very nice catch!!!
With Todd Whitten as our coach, we defeated Sam Houston on October 9th at Huntsville, 39-20.

I was there too. 18 years ago! Wow, it seems just like yesterday. We had an active Club Football team at the time, so there were a few more "college" games played there, including a win over South Alabama's club team. At the time, the president and administration were firmly anti-football and went out of their way to kill the club program, by making the players buy all their equipment and pay for insurance. I think it was during that era....The big move thereafter was to get the basketball arena built and expand the baseball stadium. Hopefully the new administration will finally be willing to look at football again.

Has the turf been updated since 2004?

My main memory was the turf was in poor condition. If this has been corrected then good. Has it been upgraded with high quality turf for safety purposes, I don’t know.
Now it was 2004 when I was there, have the restrooms and concession stands been upgraded? Probably needs reserved individual chair back seating. Probably needs suites if not already equipped. Needs a big screen video board.
If you start up a team, I will definitely go to some games.

There’s been no major reno to the stadium itself, save player amenities.
The middle section is chairback seats. The rest are bleachers. There are suites in the press box, but not many as I recall.

I would not be surprised if Maverick Stadium is torn-down in the next few years. That is, the grandstands and press box.
It's late 1970s planning and design.

Maybe you're right, but late 1970s planning and design is relatively modern compared to many of the stadia nearby. TCU, for example, is from the 30's.

TCU's stadium was redesigned a few years ago. Lots of nice suites now. They have an amazing tailgate party area on the west side of the stadium.

And what’s different about a grandstand for a stadium out size now versus then?
I suppose your suggesting the U will just no longer have an on-campus stadium.

that would be sad for me. I bought 4 chairback seats when the stadium was built. I have been over there countless times to watch all kinds of events and even a few festivals. If they say it costs too much restart football, I cant imagine starting over with an all new stadium but the school is ever busy building more academic/research buildings and maybe they want that location for something else.

No, I'm sorry, that remark about "late 70s planning and design" has absolutely no merit. What needs to be torn down are the temporary steel buildings that have been allowed to encroach on the former parking areas of the stadium. When it was built, Maverick Stadium had plenty of room to expand and grow, and it still could do so. Of course, all venue discussions are subordinate to the real question, which continues to linger.

Is this question still lingering? It seems like everybody else has FB, but the opposition trots out the shopworn argument that UTA can't afford it. Q:What's a Tier One university with Tier Three athletics? A:Invisible.

Yes UTA can afford it, the real question is why do it. In our area that has such an abundance of entertainment options, why would anyone go to see a mediocre FCS team?

RE: If UTA ever added FB... The FBS level is the only sensible choice.
Not sure why you say FCS. If UTA did FCS, it would only be a transition point towards FBS, just as it has been for all the other FBS startups. Also, as for entertainment options, one could ask the same question about a variety of other urban areas that are less populous than DFW, such as NOLA, Philly, Houston, San Antonio, etc, etc. For some of us that are UTA fans, the other "entertainment options" will never suffice. I can't be a UNT, SMU, TCU or TWU fan.
