The SEC is truly an unforgiving conference competitively.

I do believe that many schools' fans will come to loathe the mega-conference model. Fewer top conferences will mean fewer conference championships to go around and more big brands finishing in the bottom half of the standings.

There can only be one national champion (don't tell UCF) and short of that, conference championships and appearing in the top tier bowls keep fans of multiple high tradition programs (Florida and Auburn listed above) engaged and passionate.

Virginia beat Georgia Tech 16-9 last night. I turned the game on for a few minutes and observed that this is mediocre, boring football.

Extremely concerned that the Big XII in both football and basketball does this to UC. I keep thinking UC could be really good in football but only finish 5-4, 8-4 overall and in a down year could be between 4 to 6 wins. Basketball would be rerun of Mick’s Big East years. As fans we need to adjust expectations.

1. I think you are undervaluing where the football program is right now. This year's team would be in the mix in the Big 12. Last year's team would have been the best team in the Big 12 (Might not have run the table, but wouldn't have needed to either).

UC will lose more in the Big 12 than they have lost the 5 years in the AAC, but I don't see the lows as low as you do and the highs are likely to be better than 8-4.

2. Mick's Big East run was really damn good once he got this thing rebuilt. He went 11-7, 12-6, and 9-9 finishing Tied for 6th, 4th and 9th. But UC was a tournament team each of those seasons and a sweet 16 team one of them. The competition will undoubtedly be better, but losses aren't as big of a deal when that happens. UC should get a seriously talent upgrade and it's Wes' job to capitalize. I don't think fans are going to be unrealistic with Big 12 expectations.

Last year the National Champion lost 4 Big 12 games.
In 2019 the National Runner up lost 4 Big 12 games.

.500 in the big 12 likely means you have a pretty good team. Better than .500 and you're probably a fringe contender.

Yeah... I think UC is right on par with anyone in football in the B12. I don't see any reason why we would not be competitive in that league. I didn't see Baylor sending nine guy to the NFL last year.

Jury is still out on Miller's ability in basketball. He says all the right things but the performance was only slightly better than the Brannen teams. But if we get our a$$ kicked in the B12 it's not because of the league as we've been getting our a$$ kicked in the AAC too.

I think they will be one of the top few football teams most years, but people tend to forget about the other teams that are joining. BYU and UCF will be formidable challengers as well. IMO the jury is still out on how CLF will do consistently against top competition.

Same with Basketball. Until Wes proves himself, there is no reason to expect anything more than seasons like the Big East days.

Personally, I think CLF does better against top competition than he does against lesser teams.

Depends on what you consider top competition. He's 6-11 vs Top 25 teams so far in his UC tenure.

2017 0-3 vs #8 Michigan, #25 UCF, #18 USF
2018 0-2 vs #20 Temple, #24 UCF
2019 1-3 vs #5 OSU, #18 UCF, #18 Memphis #17 Memphis
2020 3-1 vs #22 Army, #16 SMU, #23 Tulsa, #9 UGA
2021 2-1 vs #9 ND, #21 Houston, #1 Alabama
2022 0-1 vs #19 Arkansas

The only point I would make is he didn't have squat to challenge ranked teams in 2017 and was a bit better depth-wise in 2018. He's 6-6 since then.

So 0-5 his first 2 seasons. 6-6 since, including 5-3 the last 2 seasons. 2 of those losses are to the 2 most talented teams in the country.

If UC put teams on the field that look like 2020 and 2021 then UC will compete at the top of league, if the rosters are closer to other years hello middle of the pack. My concern is that those UC teams were once in a generation type teams and to get close to the level is going to take time. I expect UC to be good next year but good will get you 6 to 9 wins depending on the schedule and which we way a few close games go. To win the Big XII, UC needs to be a legit top 10 team. UC has only done that 3 times, ever. I don’t think this current UC team is close to being a top 10 team and I have a hard time expecting next season to be anything more than 15 through 40, which depending on the schedule will be good for 6 to 9 wins.

Ok. Eeyore, we get it. We are destined for mediocrity. Glad it was a fun ride up until this point. 03-puke
