Lost to Ball State. I am sure Toledo fans are happy.

I think we worry mostly about ourselves, this time of year anyhow.

They not only lost, they blew a 24-7 halftime lead and lost in double OT.

They both frequently spoil our season.

Toledo has yet to win a road game this year. Doubt it’ll be easy.

MAC is not good this year but winning on the road at NIU will be tough. Not sure why a WMU fan is trolling NIU on a UT board.

NIU has been playing without Rocky Lombardi at QB since the 2nd qtr of loss to Vandy. That was followed by a relatively close loss to Kentucky and yesterday to Ball State. Last year they won all the tight games, this year they are losing the close games. Lombardi has a knee issue and was a game time decision against Ball State - which became a No-Go for the game. I expect he will try to go against Toledo and will also likely be playing with a brace to protect the knee. He's a big guy with strong arm and runs well. Tough to bring down. Brace on the knee and the injury lingering will likely hamper his running ability. The back up has done fairly well with a high QBR, but hasn't been able to get a "W".

i guess we'll know more as the week progresses on whether Lombardi can play next week.

NIU's issue this year has been defense, especially against the pass:

Passing yards allowed 129th
Passing Efficiency Defense 128th
Scoring Defense 118th
Total Defense 114th
First Down Defense 110th

MAC road wins are always great wins. This year's first road game in Columbus and next game. a trip to San Diego.
I can't remember Rockets winning too much on the West Coast unless they were there for a week prepping for a Bowl game.

Toledo is favored by 5.5 and the O/U is around 60 pts. NIU has a leaky D. We should cover if we think we have a shot at Detroit vs. a bottom half (currently by resume) MAC squad.

60 pts and 5.5 means we win 33- 27... anyone objecting? Seeing NIU has lost the 2021 luck of winning every close game? Are 15k fans at NIU going to scare our players into a shell? We should be ready. Any win is a good win.

So we are in the driver's seat....unfortunately it turns out our driver has been found to be operating while impaired a few times over the past few seasons. Wonder if the handicappers are considering our inability to win on the road and knocked the points down to -5.5. I have to believe are docking Toledo a few points when they travel this year after blowing the point spreads in Columbus and San Diego.

NIU has always seemed to do well with OK solid, don't make mistake kind of QBs. Five others on the roster with nearly identicle physical characteristics. I imagine they're well prepared with game plans to each strength as opposed to making the QB fit the system.
