Dont look now but Rice is tied for first in Conf USA and demolishing Louisiana Tech 4-1 with ten min left. Big turnaround after a disastrous non conference record.

Another win tonight (1-0 over FAU) so the Owls are 4-0 in conference play now. I think that ties our longest conference win streak since 2017 (when we nearly went undefeated in conference play - a final regular-season tie against UNT prevented a perfect conference season).

Two points: due to our OOC record we will likely need to earn an autobid by winning the conference tourney to advance to the NCAA’s

And…

Although the tie did prevent a “perfect” season that year, it did not prevent us “going undefeated in conference play”.

Good to see the string of STRONG wins for Rice Soccer here lately!

Not to quibble, but I wouldn't call that 1-0 win "STONG". We were badly outshot once again; something like 11-4 (and an equally lopsided differential in corner kicks), including a 6-2 deficit in shots on goal.

That’s a fair quibble, I’ll live with a some strong wins interspersed with a close win or two here and there.

I didn’t follow the FAU win closely but after your post and reading the summary I’ll still “take it” - despite FAU playing hard and stressing our defense so much.

It did seem to me, without following very closely, that we went from OOC mostly blowout losses plus some close games, to CUSA play with blowout wins plus some close wins.

Now that I go back and review the results, we were 2-6 OOC but have won 4 in a row in CUSA to move to 6-6 overall.

Biggest difference (on the surface):
OOC we were just 1-4 in one goal games (and 1-5 if you include the UH game that was tied at halftime). In CUSA we’re 2-0 in one-goal games. Outside of those games we have ONLY ONE blowout loss to #8 FSU and have won the other three big-margin games.

Looking at the schedule there’s another BIG OOC coming up Sunday night at Texas A&M. So we so still have another OOC opportunity and hopefully we’ll rise to the occasion in College Station this weekend!

RE: Rice Soccer
Both Delaney and Serena returned from injuries as the schedule turned to conference play. They both add a lot to the structure of the game and probably account for the better results. With the return of Gorji in the next couple of games, we should be back at full strength for the remainder of the season.

One note, we have at least four players on the team from the Tampa area so I'm sure that may have been a factor last night...there was a lot of concern about family and friends.

Sounds like we are depending on goalie play.

Happy for the win and a the streak and to get all our players back, but I don’t know if we get to play the hurricane card given that we were playing a school based in Florida whose players probably had a lot more family in the path.

Also a big win in the series as we’d been 0-6-3 in the last 9 vs UNT.

Game vs UTEP today had a lightning delay in the 1st half, but Rice prevails and wins 2-0.

Another 2-0 win - this time the two goals were by Grace Collins. 6-0 in conference play now.

There was a brief weather delay in the 1st half, but the Owls were lucky to get this one in. I'm 20-plus miles south of campus and it poured all evening with lots of lightning. I'll personally take the 2 inches of rain and the 2-0 win.

Am I correct in saying that Bella and our defense has given up 1 goal (vs. A&M) in our last 5 matches?

Yes, but soccer continues to get good commitments. They might be recruiting better than any sport on campus currently? Two of their recent commitments might be current juniors?? I think both are national top 100-type recruits??
