University of Toledo officials say ProMedica has fallen behind on its required payments to its medical college as part of a seven-year affiliation agreement, but ProMedica counters that UT owes it money, not the other way around.

UT spokesman Meghan Cunningham said Monday that ProMedica missed its August and September payments to UT — but wouldn’t say how much those payments are — as part of a 50-year affiliation agreement in 2015 that calls for millions in annual payments from ProMedica. Beginning in 2020, that amount was set at $50 million.

Did anyone say this was a bad idea when arranged? Did they? Well yes they did...

This city REALLY needs what a Medical College can offer. For that matter, the state should put a little less of its pork into columbus and help out. In addition, it's a spectacular campus and the most relaxed place I ever went to get work done. Let it rot out like so many jewels have in this city, it won't come back.

Is this true? I just went to a Dr. appointment and the discussion centered on Paramount insurance's financial woes which were made to sound severe.

Yes, there is no longer a Paramount provided option for faculty, staff, and students in their benefits package. I presume as UTMC is a public hospital, that they will still take Paramount coverage for care...but yes, one of the largest employers in the City of Toledo is no longer carrying Paramount as a benefits provider.

Yes, there is no longer a Paramount provided option for faculty, staff, and students in their benefits package. I presume as UTMC is a public hospital, that they will still take Paramount coverage for care...but yes, one of the largest employers in the City of Toledo is no longer carrying Paramount as a benefits provider.

Yep...the whole bottom is getting ready to drop out from Paramount/Promedica here shortly.

There were never updates about what was happening with the $50 million UT was supposed to receive annually. From what I can tell, Promedica moved a number of UTMC departments to their Toledo hospital campus, built new buildings for them and considered that part of their payment to UT. The original agreement (still online) only included UT residents and fellows moving.That was the extent of the agreement.

Promedica/Paramount lost their Ohio Medicaid contract. I think Promedica really screwed UT. Another thing under previous president Gaber's watch that turned sour.

Since Paramount is owned by Promedica I would not say that is related.

Perhaps the basic problem is whether Promedica perceives they are in trouble and whether they want the UT partnership to continue. Likely not in any scale like negotiated. They could force some sort of break/change I'm sure. Just a damn lovely situation. Postel inherited a mess.
