Nice show of force on Tiger Lane by THP AND MPD. I let Laird Veatch know it was greatly appreciated when he was riding around in his golf cart and to keep it up throughout the season.

More violent crime in Memphis or Martha's Vineyard? Too tough for Simple Jack.

I think what we are really discussing is violent crime and despite the attempts by sociologists to excuse personal responsibility & find blame among society rather than those who commit violent crime. IMO, human depravity is the root cause and the societal fix that is consistently most effective is consistent law enforcement. Doesn't mean there should be attempts at behavioral reform but it should not excuse personal responsibility.
No one mentioned white-collar crime because it obviously doesn't impact the reputation of Memphis. Are the people that jsw mentioned getting gas before coming to Memphis doing that because they are afraid of white-collar criminals? "Don't stop in Memphis. Those tax evaders might catch you slippin'." I don't recall seeing anyone acting like same or other types of crime are not done by people of different income levels. If the thread is about the reputation of the city, then the focus will most likely be on what is impacting that. And it's pretty obvious the point of the thread was violent crime. Violent crime is most likely to come from those in poverty and Memphis' poverty rate is well above the national average.
Based on this post you are overestimating the access to that support. Just because support is available doesn’t mean they can qualify for all of it and the time frame of that support might not last long. From personal experience obtaining Medicaid in Arkansas is easier for me than getting Tenncare would have been if I had been able to stay in Memphis.

They protect people from those who want to go on a shooting spree just because people are gathered together.
Tigerlane tailgating, Liza's run, Young Dolph memorial.
No rhyme or reason to their madness other than they're filled with hatred.

If you could do a little critical thinking, you'd have realized the discussion evolved to poor in general (not just Memphis) being more disposed to crime. My comment, which I imagine most understand, is that crime is not unique to the poor.

RE: The reputation of a city
I don't need code words (poor) to see who is doing the rampant crime where I live in Midtown. Everyone has a Ring or security cams these days because they are so cheap and everyone has WiFi. In the video evidence I see repeatedly posted the criminals all look the same, but I can't tell if they're poor or not. The news just shows mugshots, they don't mention their economic status but they all have similarities. #MidtownTaxes #WeGonGitOurs #stopdancingaroundit

RE: The reputation of a city
I live in East Tennessee. This is by far the most racially monolithic area I have ever seen.
Guess what? We still have crime. We still have drugs. We still have abductions. We still have deadly reckless driving.
When I first moved here, I bought some stuff from an old Indian man. We were talking. He told me, "Buy a gun if you don't have one. Don't live out here without a gun."
It's not Memphis. It's not race. It's deeper than that and it is a problem everywhere. It is simply more noticeable in a big city because it is more concentrated.
