As for the rest of the ACC - the SE3 to the SEC, for 18; and the rest (plus SMU, Memphis, and USF) to the B12, for 18 (+ND?).

Add some sort of scheduling agreement between the new conference and the SEC.

The new conference could even keep the ACC name if they wanted.

Looks very cool, and would reconnect a lot of rivalries.

I've never heard of the term "Virginias" being used to designate Virginia and West Virginia before.

That conference would probably be better than the PAC this year. Although I'm not sure why you put JMU in the conference-shouldn't you limit it to current FBS teams?

That's a strong overall athletics/academics grouping.

I’d drop Charlotte and add Pitt for WVU rival.

It's not unheard of in the region at least, the TV station in Bluefield (which is in both states) regularly refers to "the two Virginias".

From 1934-1936, all 16 members of the Southern Conference were in the Carolinas or Virginia. (Singular) Maryland joined the Southern Conference in 1937, and was the only member outside the Carolinas or Virginia from 1937-1949.

West Virginia joined the Southern Conference in 1950, but that still meant that Maryland was the only SoCon member from outside the Carolinas or Virginias (plural) In 1952, Maryland and Clemson were serving their one year suspension from the SoCon, so all 15 members of the SoCon were in the Carolinas or Virginias. As it turned out, Clemson and Maryland never returned to the SoCon since the ACC was formed in 1953.

I've never been to West Virginia before. I have been to Virginia before, but not anywhere close to the Virginia-West Virginia border. I wasn't aware that people near the border use that term.

The Southern Conference in its days between the SEC formation and ACC formation was a much bigger conference that almost met his criteria. In fact, from 1934-1936 (before Maryland joined the SoCon) the Southern Conference completely met his criteria, albeit without a single member in West Virginia.

The Southern Conference again completely met his criteria in 1952 (this time with a member in West Virginia) since Maryland was serving a one year suspension from the conference. (Which they never actually ended up returning from)

JMU is in the Sun Belt this year.

This conference would not have the necessary national appeal, but I'd love the crap out of it.

Wake Forest would want to say “let’s do it” but would respond with “we’ll call you back”

Conference Carolinas in Division II was originally the Carolinas-Virginia Athletic Conference (CVAC). If they still hold rights to that name, I suppose a deal could be worked out for it.

Maryland was a founding member back in the '20s.

Adding West Virginia to a Virginia/Carolinas conference is a stretch, throwing in a school from Pennsylvania is a bridge too far.

If you split it in half and have some sort of promotion/relegation where one conference is a P5 and one is a G5 it could work I guess. It would make for kind of a weak power conference but a great G5 conference.
There's several borderline top 40 teams but few bonafide top 20 teams that can help carry the conference outside of Clemson.
