The January 6 show trial is partly about persecuting political opponents. But it’s also about covering up the truth of the 2020 election. Turning questions about the many problems with the 2020 election into a crime is the type of thing that is done in third-world countries. Persecuting people who talk about it or try to do something about it is what you expect in corrupt authoritarian regimes. It is horrific to see it happening here."

It was not, because it could not possibly have been. Our election integrity controls are lax at best to begin with, and many of them were held in abeyance.

And neither do you, nor does anyone else, because the shoddy state of the integrity controls makes it impossible to know.

Well of course it's about covering up election fraud. All they do is about that.

Meanwhile, still waiting on proof of ANY significant fraud. Rudy, Ellis, trump, Powell, Lindell, et. al. claimed hundreds of thousands of illegals voted and thousands of dead people voted in multiple states, and has yet to provide ANY of this evidence to any state legislature or law enforcement agency.

Yep, some are still waiting to see the archives of the Kennedy assassination report as well. Still classified after all these years. Ludicrous. There is no reason to redact anything from the early 1960's report unless there was Government involvement.

Tom's point here is well taken, there are huge similarities between the Trump collusion nonsense and the hysteria of a "stolen election". Both became self feeding talking points of hyper-partisans who wanted the accusations to be true, even if the evidence was circumstantial or exceedingly thin. The irregularities of the Trump campaign lent itself to question, as did the irregularities stemming from the COVID changes in election procedures. And, while we can point to countless items that seem to indicate one or the other there has not and likely will never be a smoking gun for a "stolen election", and the Trump collusion nonsense has been thoroughly debunked for all but those with stage for TDS.

There are huge differences as well, the vast majority of the Russia accusations were manufactured by his opposition, and most of the powers that were shouting from the rooftop knew them to be exaggerated if not overtly false. The sham of our media used it to persecute an elected official they did not like, truth be damned.

The stolen election rants generally are not manufactured, but are an opinion of the reasons and results of what was a farce of a controlled election. Virtually no one in the main stream media has picked it up to investigate the accusations, and they will never. I'm not aware of any invented accusations or underhanded tactics by government officials making the accusations, so in my opinion the two accusations are dramatically different in many many ways, but for the great unwashed masses who look for any sound bite or tidbit that feeds their narrative the two are similar.
