Great point. I observed the same. Tailgate lots were packed as well. Going to be another exciting Fall in Clifton.

on 1530 yesterday, brendel made a comment that season tix were now on a wait list - i think thats uncharted territory for uc - i don't know what that number is, but i would think that the crowds will be fine next year.

Bolded, not to get into semantics here, but weren't we told in the fall that season tickets were sold out for basketball, but the arena was rarely, if ever, "sold out" this entire season?

Maybe all schools hold back a certain number of seats for single game, general admission. But other than the conference required holdback for the visiting team, why not make every seat a season ticket if demand is that high?

Don't know this to be the case, but if all tickets were sold as season tickets it would allow blocks to be bought by companies like Ticketmaster who could charge as much as they want thus blocking out the average Joe from ever having a chance at them. That probably happens anyway, but if UC holds them they can ask inflated prices for the more desirable games.

Use variable ticket pricing. Single season prices based on quality of opponent. Kennesaw State low, IU high.

UC already does this

I'd argue Lawton is a bigger loss than you're giving him credit for...we all know there is an obvious deficiency in pass-rushing from the DL this season and he could've helped there unless Eugenio comes in and gets into the rotation (doubtful). All others I agree with...we definitely were net positive in a big way through the portal this year.

We went 13-1 and went to the playoffs last year so it'd be a big disappointment if we didn't come out ahead in the portal. When you have on field success and have a great culture that people want to be a part of you should lose guys who haven't been able to earn the PT they want but not guys you were building with. Don't know the story with Lawton but most of the other guys fit that bill.

RE: 2022 Bearcat Football
I imagine a lot of teams recruited against Cincinnati in the past by saying UC would never make the playoffs and that Fickell would soon be gone. Now, UC has made the playoffs and Fickell is still here, while many of those other schools lost their coaches. I bet many recruits that looked at UC previously are doing so again with a better outlook (Kiner?).

I'm sure that on the defensive side, they have a good idea of the names of who is expected to come in as a 1B and make significant contributions in the front 7, as well as the defensive backfield. That rotation has been a great success at UC. And just because the names of those players may not be as familiar as what we've seen in the past, I trust CLF to already have a plan in place for that for next year.

Kentucky/Vince Marrow's sales pitch is just a bit different...and way dumber.

Sign of a good staff and culture...only having two guys leave who were down the depth chart shows people want to be here even if they may never play here.

If you have any idea what his pitch for Midwest kids going to Hilltucky is would love to have a general idea.

It blows me away. Mark Stoops is solid but Vince for a long time now is about the single reason they have any talent even if it still goes mostly to waste for their team, they always have a nice amount of guys drafted due to their individual efforts and talents.

Example:
https://247sports.com/Recruitment/Kiyaun...Interests/

How do you choose Kentucky over a school that has better teams and development for draft, campus, education, weather and girls. At least go to Tennessee to get into true SEC country and want a short drive home. My final 5 would be UC, Ohio State, Michigan, Georgia, and Florida (LSU if Kelly wasn’t there) if I’m that guy.

Yep, just saw that...he had some off-field stuff that made it seem like he may struggle even making the team this fall.

He heavily leans into negative recruitment (almost exclusively at this point) and points out certain similarities he has with many CFB recruits and I'll just leave it at that. I've been in recruiting meeting with some players in the past when he walks in and have heard it first hand. Little uncomfortable as someone who doesn't have that simarity after what he says.

Yeah. This wasn't a huge surprise. Hope he lands in a place where he's free from distractions.

Can’t give rep points yet on new 2.0 account but that gives me the general idea I was looking for. Much appreciated as always!

Each filled an area of need.

Fickell talked about this in an interview. He only uses the transfer portal to fill areas of need. He doesn't use it just to add depth of players similar to what he has. The reason for that is he doesn't feel its fair to current kids on the roster who have stuck it out for 2 or 3 years to get their chance at starting or significant playing time. He wants the players he recruited to be given a chance to grow and earn their way onto the field.

I never really gave that much thought until I heard him discuss it. If you bring in 15 new kids from the portal each year you just end up pissing off the current kids who then transfer out. Then you just have a revolving doors of players who don't get to know each other, build comradery and create a unified team atmosphere.

Also make the transfers earn in practice and not guarantee playing time. Remember Jerome Ford had to play backup to Doaks for much of a year.

Last year just under 40% of players who entered the portal did not have a spot on a roster by the next semester...sooner or later people are going to realize it's not a fix-all thing.

With that being said McDonald committed to MTSU a month ago.
Miles ended up at EMU

I'd imagine Monrrow similarly heads to a MAC school (NIU or Ball State). Jarmon is going to struggle to find a spot for a lot of different reasons, and Bales isn't going to end up in FBS.
