Let's Remember Some Guys
I think this board needs a thread to 'Remember Some Guys' - an exercise where we remember EMU athletes who maybe weren't stars but we liked and or remember.

I'll go first: Tyler Benz

Tyler almost led us to a huge upset at MSU. Donald Scott catches that ball in the end zone, it’s a whole different situation.

I had dinner with Ryan the last time I was in Houston. He played professionally for a while overseas and is doing very well for himself.

I attended basketball practice before the regular season started when Calvin Warner was a freshman. Let me tell you this kid had big time hops and was a special talent. I believe he was a top 10 high school player in Florida. Getting back to practice, Calvin was dominating in practice and just frustrating the upper class mates. At the end of a practice he got a run out and leapt just a couple feet in front of the free throw line and threw down a vicious dunk on the opposing squad. One of the best dunks I’ve seen and I’ve seen a lot. I believe he made all freshman team but Milton was rebuilding and didn’t have pieces in place to help him. This kid had so much potential but transferred out after one season to USF and never had the career I envisioned. He surely was very athletic!! Imagine Ray Lee’s athleticism in a 6’7” frame.

Nice! Glad to hear it. Loved his “old man” game. Really nice shooting touch.

Warner was an electric athlete.

You’re not kidding brother. He was the real deal. Broke my heart when he transferred.

Jim Streeter. Not an athlete but was Mr. EMU SID for a very long career. He got a very young start when the #1 left and he moved over an office... This was in the 1970s (yep, Jim was an SID back in the stone age when photographs were cropped, pasted on mock up pages, etc.). I'm sure Jim tells these stories to his grand children and they probably think he lived through the Great Depression... Lol.

RE: Let's Remember Some Guys
Dear Friends,
From the Boisture era: Dave Pureifory a transfer from Grambling, who was a ferocious defensive lineman.
Larry Ratcliff, one of the very best running backs in the history of Eastern football. Interesting point in his life after playing for Eastern, he changed the spelling of his last name to Radcliff.
Chip Gooden, wide receiver and punt returner, had great hands and speed. A recruit out of Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

KPJ, I enjoy your inside info. If you had a radio show or podcast, I'd listen. Hint, hint, WEMU...
