Yeah, he's a strange one. He's definitely a supporter of the AAC office staff, and a defender of the C-USA staff. He hates UConn, the Big East, Boise State and Marshall.
My wag, a MTSU and Memphis fan.
I have no reason to like the AAC office staff any more than the NBE office staff. I've never been to Providence for the clambake and I've never played HORSE with Val.
I just tell it like it is.
I have no reason to dress up UConn, Boise State, or Marshall. They are all similar to me in a lot of ways... and different in others.
I do think Judy MacLeod has done an admirable job at pulling up the nose of the plane.
I will give Judy some credit for keeping the conference on life support. So far we have made sensible adds. We haven't made the mistake of adding past the point of what is necessary, and we are now targeting affiliate adds to strengthen the profile off the league. All smart moves.
Now for what needs to happen next.
A media deal has to be reached with ESPN or another major network. First tier rights cannot go to Stadium, Facebook, or CBS College Sports. If ESPN, Fox, NBC, or CBS want the rights make sure it includes guarantees for games on linear/broadcast networks. Give the networks the right to pick the game during the season so they can get the best possible matchups. Let them pick the day of the week for the linear matchup. Give a "bonus" media payout to the participants of the linear games. Reward excellence.
Similar to above, give a higher percentage of conference revenue to champions of revenue sports, bowl game attendees, NCAA credit winners, etc. Equal shares reward programs that are along for the ride. Make teams earn their keep. Set up performance bonuses similar to how coaches are paid.
Change the conference basketball tournament location. It would be better to let the regular season champ host over this mess in Frisco. Also, change the format to protect your top team(s) as much as possible. I am talking double byes. Upsets are fun and all, but if you get your best team(s) dancing then you have a better chance to earn more credits.
Broker scheduling agreements with other conferences for all sports. Especially for hoops. I would personally like to see something similar to the "Bracket Buster" games ESPN used to arrange. Set open dates for the end of OOC play and then have the best teams in the G5 play each other with the away team getting a return trip from their opponent the next season.
